Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. It’s not a long walk but on my first trip out of Southampton, we walked to the ship. It was summer and we sweated and were otherwise not presentable or very happy with that decision.
  2. Every cabin was sold out but I still got an upgrade. With the max bid you probably will get the upgrade but there are many variables that make them wait until very close to sailing. With over a thousand cabins there will be no shows and shuttling folks around. I have heard full price bids being denied but your chances are pretty good. Good Luck.
  3. The low bid was $350 or so and the high bid was $1150. I bid $800. The dial was still low mid-range even though the bid was on the higher side. I'm not sure that I put much faith in that dial. Also, I probably wouldn't have gone so high had the cruise not shown sold-out. Sometimes, a cruise line opens up a few cabins, but this has been sold-out the entire time since I received the upgrade offer. On airlines I usually bid just above the minimum.
  4. There is a link to check but they should send an email as well. I did get an email. I did use a TA, I am in the US and the cruise was showing sold out when I received the offer 30 days out. This was for a QM2 crossing. I booked about 70 days out. At the time they only had sheltered balconies and they were priced well. They had QG but I didn’t want to spend 10k on a last minute trip. The offer was for a regular balcony or britannia club. I would have booked club if I had the option and since the cruise showed sold out I did bid competitively. Today, 8 days out they accepted my bid. The total cost is less than what I would have paid outright. I have a world segment cruise in February. I checked but I’m not eligible to upgrade (probably too soon). I booked a PQ for that one so I’m probably not going to bid too much for an upgrade but I’ll probably put some offer above minimum if I’m eligible.
  5. Thanks all for the tips. We're staying in the V&A waterfront area. Going to a game reserve for a day tour. I'll definitely look into the above suggestions. Cheers.
  6. I'm taking my SO on a surprise TA cruise on QM2 so shipping our bag from San Diego to NY. If we take the big bag, he'll know. Anyway, today I received our luggage forward luggage tags. They apparently ship the bag UPS to Brooklyn and the lowest cost means I need to give them the bag 9 days prior.
  7. Taking the QM2 from Cape Town to Perth. Going several days early so any suggestions for things to do in Cape Town would be appreciated.
  8. I bid on a TA on QM2 for August 18th for a Brittiana Club as we had a sheltered balcony. We booked this is early June and at that time the sheltered balcony and below were the only cabins available. About 30 days out from our trip, I received an email offer to bid. The Cunard site showed the cruise completely sold out. I put a good bid in as I wanted the Club or higher all along and the total price with bid was still lower than what is usually offered. But now I wait and my enthusiasm for success is waning.
  9. I received an offer to bid from a sheltered balcony on QM2 to a club or regular balcony. When I checked the prices for these the cruise showed sold out. Based on other comments it seems that an upgrade on a sold out cruise is unlikely. Anyway, would love to heart from others who were upgraded on a sold out cruise.
  10. Been on the Mary many times and was just offered the upgrade to Club from sheltered balcony for our 8/18 crossing. Almost 4 years now so I'm ready for my return. The main advantage in Club is having your table for breakfast and lunch and just being able to eat at your table whenever you want. No lines, no wait for anything. The food is the same, but you are able to get special requests more easily and definitely better service. Never been in QG but did PG several times and for that one, better food and service. We do like the grills deck but mostly the awesome jacuzzi with the amazing unobstructed forward view.
