That's what i am trying to tell you. You can say you have a reservation and that "they told you that they will be open" but I would not count on it.
Two of my reservations cancelled and I spoke to the front desk and was ASSURED that my reservation would be good for Nov 12 -15th IT WASN'T.

Sorry radio - I just assumed. Been on 45 cruises and all have been insured, so I am sorry to assume that you had it. We have had to use ours several times ( once being a substantial amount of $$) Good luck! Maybe your providers will at least offer you travel vouchers for your next journey.
Aviator - still waiting for some photos from Puerto Rico.

Die hard Cubs fan here - watched them win the series last season while onboard a 10 day Carnival cruise. Had a blast!! GO CUBS GO

Your travel insurance will cover your airfare and deposits on hotels.
Aviator - can you please send pictures of San Juan? You always tell us that San Juan is in much better shape and that we should stay and help the economy. If you send pictures of hotels that are open and restaraunts with people inside, beaches with people on them etc , this would give the cruisecritic members a better view of what is really happening there. All we hear through the media is how awful things are. Thanks!

Carnival Cruise Line has canceled all departures of Carnival Fascination through to the end of January 2018 so that the ship can be used for hurricane relief workers in the Caribbean. The ship will be chartered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for almost four months in a last-minute deal.
The cruise line posted on its website today: “Earlier this week, we communicated that we were ready to resume our operation from San Juan on Carnival Fascination, with our first cruise departing this Sunday. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has since asked us to support the relief and rebuilding efforts and Carnival Fascination has been chartered to provide housing for relief workers in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This means the ship’s departures from October 15, 2017 through January 28, 2018 will be canceled. Carnival Fascination will return to year-round service from San Juan beginning February 18, 2018.”
During the period in between the charter and the next scheduled cruise, Carnival Fascination will be sent for its scheduled dry dock (January 31 to February 17, 2018) in the Grand Bahama shipyard to receive new features including Guy’s Burger Joint and Blue Iguana Cantina.
Passengers booked on the cancelled cruises will receive a refund of their cruise fare and any other pr

None of the lists are accurate. Calling reservations in yucca flats Idaho is not going to help you. The people at 1 800 reservations are not in Puerto Rico, so they are glad to take your reservation.
Some of the hotels have no working phones, so it is impossible to verify if they are or will be open. So that being said, you are either going to find a decent hotel and pay 300/night or you will find something that you would NOT want to stay in. FEMA is occupying 90% of all the good hotels, Embassy Suites, Hampton, Sheraton etc. Many of these hotels are running on generators. I am not trying to be a pessimist, just a realist.
If you need a post cruise hotel for a few days, consider flying to Florida after the cruise and staying there. If you need a pre cruise stay - fly to Miami the night before and grab a flight to SJU the morning off the cruise.

Almost all of the hotels are closed right now, so you will have a much better selection after the 1st of the year. Embassy Suites in Isle Verde is our favorite.

I have been on 45 cruises (only 3 with NCL) My next four are already booked and they are not with NCL. I am not saying that the other cruiselines have handled things much better. I realize the hurricanes are no ones fault, but to just not give us a revised itinerary 3 weeks before we sail is ridiculous. I also spent additional $$ rearranging my flights so that I leave the day we dockin San Juan, fly to FLL, and then after 3 days there fly home. I have vacation time that I have to take or I lose it. Don't feel like sitting home in Chicago. Again, my choice, not asking for reimbursement, but c'mon can I have an itinerary please? LOL
-
Sounds like St Croix is a possibility as well as St thomas or St Maarten newmexiconita.
HMMMM I seem to remember lots and lots of devastation there.
And frankly, I don't care that you don't care HA!

Good luck- we had reservations for November at two different hotels- both cancelled. Had to reschedule a flight on day of disembarkation to Fort Lauderdale. Staying there 3 nights instead. Then we will fly home to Chicago.
Glad to get out of San Juan. The place is overrun with FEMA workers all taking up any hotel space that is available.

What a bunch of crap! Never booking NCL again. We should have had an itinerary by now and I am not happy being dumped on a devastated island.
-
Yep, I am on the Nov 3rd Dawn sailing. No itinerary revisions. I am already upset that I had to revise my flight and leave San juan the day we disembark (both hotel reservations cancelled).
I am now flying to Fort Lauderdale and staying there for 3 nights before flying back to Chicago.
But now, there are rumours that we might dock in St Thomas and St Maarten?
Great - just where I want to be on vacation. What are we supposed to do there?
After 45 cruises (only 3 with NCL), I will not be bringing my business back to them. There is no reason we should not have a revised itinerary by now.
-
Actually not spending any time in San Juan at all, so it worked out.
-
My second hotel cancelled for 3 night post stay. Cancelled my flights and got a flight to Fort Lauderdale. Will stay there for three days and then fly home. Much nicer hotel, waaay cheaper and plenty of restaurants open. Trees actually have leaves on them too!

so once again we have people posting that A. you are insensitive to the island people. B. you should be grateful no matter where you go, C. Their sailing is worse off than yours...blah blah blah. Hey it's ok to be upset, I leave Nov 3rd and still have no itinerary posted..LOL
I am listening to you and I care. :D

LOL forget it...

Since everything is so up in the air in San Juan, we are flying out the day we dock and spending two days in Fort Lauderdale. Could not get a confirmation on our reservations. Also don't feel like staying at a hotel overrun with FEMA workers.
Lost two reservations in San Juan - enough already!

Exactly what mimjes said. And I do have insurance - always do, however, it only covers 75% if you have cancel for any reason. I have been on cruisecritic a long time and cruising for way longer.
I just don't appreciate people being nasty because we don't want to dock in San Juan.
I feel that we should be offered another option. NCL would not lose any revenue by letting us transfer our booking to another cruise that has space available.
