  1. Thanks, Beccafcr!

Hmm, that pdf is incorrect... I´ve never seen any seats in the North Star neither on the Quantum nor on the Anthem... anyway the pdf says there are 13 seats in the North Star plus an open space for wheel chairs.

    steamboats

There was a photo when she came into Southampton that had seats in the capsule ... Not seen them since mind

  2. Thanks for the update!

Since I've never followed the construction of a ship before, what happens after this "conveyance"?

    Thanks!

She will dock at Emshaven for final fit out of any remaining areas. Then most importantly come the sea trials where she's put through her paces. Once all this has been done to the yards satisfaction she'll be handed over to Royal and she'll sail to Southampton.

  3. The issue with the Indy in UK market in winter was that she's not well suited to cool/wet weather cruising. The design of the Q class are PERFECT for this type of cruise market - enclosed solarium, enclosed main pool, large seaplex multi-use activity space, two70, Music hall, dining options well suited to UK market etc. The RCCL brand is very strong in the UK and I think having a Q class ship there year-round would work well.

Regardless of home-port RCCL/X really need a year-round presence in Europe going forward.

Yes it would really surprise me for RCCL to go back to Indy (even if she is popular here in the UK) after having Q class seasons. They've really been driving forward Anthem with Marketing/etc (as you would with a new ship) but given the other lines are positioning some of their newest ships in the UK Royal needs to stay top of their game going forward.

I agree though, a year round presence is needed in the UK.

  4. The difference with Harmony is Central Park. For both Oasis and Allure, CP was installed in Florida and if it is going to be the same thing for Harmony, then the ship, will probably start in Florida.

I suspect that will be the case because European nights will be too cold for the plants in April.

April isn't that cold in the Med, I would assume they'll install from Day 1, esp is she's based from Barcelona for the summer.

  5. I do not think it was just coincidence that MSC released a video with information on their two, 7 ship, over 35000 berth Vista and Seaside projects that clearly take the best features of Oasis and Quantum Class along with the NCL Breakaway and Breakaway Plus classes just the day after RCI released some information on Harmony.

    http://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/12272-msc-releases-video-detailing-new-ship-features.html

The fact that they most likely plan to position these at price points under those currently offered by RCI and NCL must also be troubling for the execs at both companies.

They sort of give it away for the Seaside project stating, "The ships that follow the sun" I guess Oasis class would be in this same class of ship.

I would think that speculation on where MSC plan to deploy these 7 megaships might also influence RCI deployment.

I think most only consider individual travelers when thinking about deployment, but I think it is more important to consider where the corporate meeting and incentive market want these new ships as they are going to need group business to fill all these cabins.

Maybe Australia with such high market penetration can support a ship like this in the future, I do not know enough about the market to know.

I agree completely! I mean, the video almost over-eggs the features which are quite obviously the ideas debuted on NCL and RCCL (and Carnival). They really have declared war on the big lines, and why not, I do feel recently that Royal in particular need to up their game a bit - yes the new ships are lovely but they need to push themselves. That equally comes down to deployment.

  6. Same here! I confess I will be slightly disappointed if Royal decides to start her in the Med... Seems as though they have started shying away from debuting new ships in "traditional" spots like Port Everglades or Miami... They barely even have a presence in Miami anymore!

It's more of a pragmatic issue really, since 99% of them are built in Europe it makes sense to do some form of debut. What I've noticed from recent ships they're doing specific debut's for Europe and then another in the USA. I don't see why this is an issue, they need to market them across the markets as much as possible afterall

I'd also say (tongue in cheek) you cant get more 'traditional' than Southampton, UK ;)

  7. Sparkx!!!! How are you my friend? I see you're on Anthem in a couple of months, have a great cruise :D

A shout out to Sparkx for taking one of the best pictures I have ever on any RCI ship... the first one in my review on the bow here:

I have 11-12 pictures dedicated to the bow here

On our sailing, the only access allowed was during the All Access Tour. No one else ever got to go there other than staff. I don't know whether that has changed or not since December. You have go through numerous areas of the crew decks, including their lounge and version of Windjammer to get to the access door for the bow.

    Hello!!

I'm good thanks - still haven't gotten round to my review yet from Quantum! Otherwise good, got a few personal things to get through and I'll get the review up soon! How's you?

Yea on Anthem in a couple of months, intrigued to see how she compares to her sister!

Yea the one thing I would say is that it isn't that easy to get out onto the deck! Took lots of faffing around the crew areas!
