  1. We've also done Club Class on both Regal and Emerald and always found the service and meals excellent.

We always just strolled right in without any wait. I'm sure these hiccups on Sun are just new ship related and these issues will be sorted out very soon if they if not already.

Yes getting taxis was easy they line up at the ships drop off and in Stari Bar at the point they drop you off which is the end/beginning of the “Main Street which is pedestrian only.

Negotiate your fare with the driver and have that exact payment cash out and show the driver just to be clear. They ask for 20e but you can offer 15e for ride. This is NOT a per person ride it’s for however many you have in your party.

    enjoy

    mike,

Thank you very much for the fast response Mike.

    Happy Cruising.

    Here’s my follow-up :

we ended up docking in Bar, Montenegro May 6. Bar is no Kotor based on what I’ve heard/read HOWEVER, Stari Bar does have a unique charm. There are actually 2 towns Bar ( the new town) and Stari Bar (old town).

The dock is a 5min bus ride to a drop off spot with vendors, information and taxis waiting mainly for those wishing to go to Stari Bar which is a 15min ride 15€-20€ (negotiable) not walkable.

Stai Bar is a step back to earlier times with a cobble stone Main Street lined with shops and some tavernas. Since tourism hasn’t been a main source of revenue in Stari Bar you will find reasonable prices (2.5€ for a beer delicious pizza 8€) and friendly people that appreciate visitors.

Bar is a “more modern” working class town just minutes from the bus drop off. These you will find pop up vendors and some shops and taverns ( we actually didn’t spend time in Bar and elected to spend our day in Stari Bar.

In the end though we were disappointed in missing Kotor, we enjoyed the lack of tourist crowds and the feel of Stari Bar not to mention the good prices.

Thanks for your detailed report. Was it easy to get a taxi back to the cruise port from Stari Bar?

  4. We just debarked Icon yesterday and the food and service on board was fabulous. Breakfast and lunch in the Main Dining room was always prompt and delicious and dinners at the Coastal Kitchen were superb.

We also dined at numerous venues on board; Marketplace, Windjammer, Surfside Eatery and loved everything. The only meal that was less than perfect was our dinner at Hooked. The oyster appetizer was delicious but, the Captain's Platter main course was on the greasy side.

All in all though a terrific experience enjoying the culinary cornucopia aboard this amazing ship.

  5. I checked several affordable hotels for the dates you listed above. The prices are based on the hotel websites. If you book through a third party site you can probably get some good prices but, you never know exactly where the room is, like facing a brick wall or next to a loud air conditioner outside.

Manhattan is where you want to be, that's where all the action is, the famous sites and historic landmarks.

Best Western - East 49th street between 3rd avenue and Lexington. Nice hotel prices in your range between $250 and $350. Great location steps from Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Theater District and many nice restaurants and diners.

Hilton Garden Inn - East 52nd near 3rd Avenue. King bed room approximately $353 with Hilton Honors discount. Great neighborhood, close to many attractions.

Omni Berkshire Place - East 52nd between Madison and 5th Avenue. Excellent area, very nice hotel, close to great shopping, Central Park just seven blocks away. Rockefeller Center, MoMa, theater district. King bedroom starting at $324 per night $350 for deluxe king.

The Jewel Club Quarters east 51rst between 5th and 6th avenue. Located in Rockefeller Center. Very close to theater district, shopping, Central Park, MoMa, Saks 5th Avenue. King rooms starting at $328 for advanced purchase.

If you use a discount hotel site there are many great options like the Benjamin on 51rst just off Lexington - the Michangelo - 51rst street just off 7th avenue. The Kimberly - East 50th street between 3rd and Lexington among many others.
