  1. I wish they'd ask me. But to be a bit skeptical - maybe they are "planting seeds" for your consideration. There is another tour company that used to solicit feedback like this and then they were happy to let you know when an opportunity that you had hoped for became available.

Honestly - what other ports might be added in the Med? esp. with the large ships? Seems like most of the desirable ones are pretty well served at this time.

  2. The select dining experience must really vary ship to ship, maybe cruise to cruise. We had very bad luck with select on 3 different cruises (even having made reservations).

We did have some pleasant experiences on other trips when we were willing to be seated with a larger group and enjoyed meeting new folks at a larger table.

  3. It must vary ship to ship and maybe cruise to cruise but our experience with select dining on 3 different cruises (I think 1 on Silhouette and 2 Infinity) was that it was a hot mess. We made reservations months ahead - they were not honored in the least. We would talk to the maitre d' - he would assure us it would be better the next night - NO! it was not. We were a group of 6 tho. But even couples were waiting, 45 minutes plus, on the last Silhouette cruise. We would be advised to come early - so what is the point of having a reservation.

We ended up going to the buffet much more that we had intended. And for the forseeable future, we are finished with Celebrity. Especially if you have a group of 6 or more, I would advise you go for traditional dining. The thing is, don't take reservations if you are not going to honor them. Tell us for a that for our group, we should do traditional dining!

  4. Three cruises we did select dining - Silhouette and Constellation, I think. We made reservations each time - NEVER honored - was one hot mess - I think it got worse every time. Maybe other ships have their act together but we got very frustrated and went up to the buffet several nights. Even couples willing to share were sometimes waiting over an hour! In fact we are now done with Celebrity, this definitely a big part of the reason.

  5. I think there is a higher noise / energy level from the drink packages but I did not see any bad behavior. I think there are many more Brits on board.

It can be hard to get service in the bars, MDR and in the cafe if you're seated. I ended up going up to the bar myself to get drinks.

I think the buffet in the evenings has vastly improved.

Select dining is one hot mess - get an assigned time. Do not rely on making reservations for select dining - not honored and even couples waited and waited to be seated.

I think the food in the MDR is still quite good but because we had chosen select dining and it was such a mess, we went to the buffet upstairs many more nights than we ever had before.

  6. I was so excited to find an email with an upsell offer but when I called, I had to leave a message. I do not have a cell phone and cannot take a personal call like this at work (altho I can call out). So of course I am a bit frustrated. Has anyone had any luck with connecting with an agent that can take my money! for the upsell besides hoping the designated agent returns my call when I am at home.

How long have you waited to be called back when you left a message on the "upsell hotline"?:D

  7. We almost always get a balcony (but on Celebrity). However we are doing Alaska with Princess this July and the cost differential was just too high IMO. We got an obstructed OV for just a bit more than an interior (these are now listed with the interior cabins) and for a 7 night cruise, a balcony would have been $1500 more - no thanks.

Also to consider - when is your sail. We did the Baltics in May and it was too chilly to use our balcony for 85% of the time.

  8. In the first few sentences the OP says "thru immigration' two times. It seems obvious they were off the ship and in the line for Russian immigration.

IMO if Celebrity wants to speed their tour participants thru quickly, they should arrange with some of the tour dollars for Russian immigration to make a special line.

  9. Yes to Lawn Club Grill - excellent

New menu is Tuscan made it not worth the up charge IMO, even with big discount.

Qsine - I resisted for several sails but after trying it, I did really like it. It may be "gimmicky" but many items are pretty darn good and quite different from the fare in the other venues. Lava crab - yum! and "the box" with the middle eastern fare - winner winner. I did not care for the steak and could not try everything but if you go as a couple you can still sample many of the choices.

  10. Quite a few weeks ago I submitted a request for a brochure - the big one! on the Princess website - still waiting. I know many lines don't even want to provide the large glossy brochures any more but I have been looking forward to getting one before my upcoming cruise. Anyone had better luck with this than I have?

  11. Would someone please talk food!, not money - what are some of the "don't miss" menu items. I am first time Princess cruiser and I know there will always be choices on the menu - would love to know what old timers look forward to when back on board.

And did I read somewhere that on the Alaskan cruisers the grill near the pool may have some "unadvertised" specials like crab cakes? That would be good to know!

  12. We are going on a cruise with 2 other couples. They booked with a TA and I booked direct. Now they are calling asking me some details about shore excursions, etc. Can they access their booking and info thru the website? Will they have a confirmation number to log in with? Also I mentioned they will want to complete their reservation info for easy check in at the pier. So I do hope they can complete the on-line registration ahead of time.

  13. Well I want to post here not just to answer but to get maybe some additional info. My impression is because of the time (very early morning) the ship is in the fijord, you almost have to book with the ship to get a good experience. It seems you board a smaller ship off the Emerald and then go down to Juneau? I was a little surprised that the time in the fijord was so darn early! but cynical me thinks that is a good way to have passengers book an additional expedition thru Princess. On another cruise line with approached the glacier much more mid-day.

  14. Oh I know I can look at weather.com for averages but would rather chat. On our first Alasaka cruise in June 2015 we had record highs! but we will go again this July and thinking again about wardrobe. I'm think capris and jeans, one or maybe two jackets just for variety and some short sleeved, 3/4 sleeved tops. Has anyone needed mittens? shorts? We are doing Seattle round trip, not going super far north. Suggestions?
