  2. Been away a bit the past two months...All of April on a 28 Day cruise to the South Pacific..I'm still sorting through all those photos.

Last weekend we drove up to St.Louis to catch a ball game.

    Saturday May 25th 2019.

Catchers interference... Tyler Flowers (Atlanta) catching...Paul Goldschmidt (St. Louis) batting.

Goldschmidt would eventually come around and score the Cardinals first run.

    Sunday May 26th.

In my opinion two of the best Catchers in Baseball today. Yadier Molina #4 (Cardinals) and Brian McCann #16 (Atlanta)

I finally captured a play at the plate.

Marcell Ozuna #23 (Cardinals) scoring. Brian McCann (Atlanta) catching. Fan Favorite Yadier Molina (Cardinals) in the background.

  3. Dave,

I like this idea. Anything to get me out, or in, and use my gear.

I spent a little time on this subject today and here are a few of the results.....

  4. Mark:

Very impressed by the bee in flight!

    How did you do it?

    Thank You.

I was sitting on our deck just playing around with "focus modes" and shutter speeds. The Bees will hover for a second or two, allowing for a tenuous focus lock. Trying to track focus from there ended up being the "fun" part of the exercise.

Really it was Patience, trial and error, and some major Lightroom cropping that got those captures.

I find I learn quite a bit "sitting on the deck".

  5. After a long winter of hibernation (and no cruises) I've been using good weather days to test lenses for an upcoming ABC's cruise.

Today was a pleasant day with clear skies and I had a couple of willing models. So we went out to take a few test shots with my 16-28 zoom.

I missed focus on a few of the shots....Note to self...f2.8 and shooting low using live view. It's hard to get correct focus on a model that wants to do her own thing.

I was living in Okinawa Japan when I was forced into the digital age. My trusty Olympus *****-10 couldn't take the sand, humidity, and salt air of living near the beach. Even in Japan repair cost were more than the camera was worth. So I opted the next best thing to film....The 3.5 inch floppy disc.

My first digital was a wonderful 1.6 mega pixel Sony FD Mavica FD-92. But I did upgrade a little later to a 5 mega pixel Sony F707. Believe it or not I still have both and they are still working.

I do have a hard time finding film for the the FD-92. It's fun to think back to those days. Thanks Dave.

  6. Are the pictures posted in these weekly threads supposed to be taken using manual settings?

I haven't seen any "rules" posted for these threads. I think pierces intent is to give us an excuse to get out and use our cameras and provide a place to post the results.

BTW most of the time I shoot in "aperture priority" which is an automatic mode that adjusts the shutter speed and ISO (if set to auto) to the aperture I select.

  7. We had to call in to use our 25% from the disrupted Divina Irma cruise.

Our PVC asked us to e-mail the certificate to them.

Then she had to get supervisor approval. The whole process took about 1/2 hour from the call to the final e-mail from MSC with the confirmation.

We used MSC PVC- Lisa.Mazuz@msccruisesusa.com - Lisa was nice to work with and returns calls and e-mails promptly.

  8. I've always been a fan of Canon's higher level compact cameras in their Powershot product line (still use an S100 for underwater pictures), Though I've never actually owned a "super zoom" compact.

If I were in the market for a new one, the SX730 HS would be on my "short list" of higher end compact cameras to look at: http://www.techradar.com/reviews/canon-powershot-sx730-hs/4#article-body this also lists a Panasonic and Nikon as competitors.

I'll second the Canon SX730 HS I picked one up to use as a pocket camera. It takes really good pictures and has an impressive optical zoom.

I really recommend the Cartagena album. Personally that was my favorite port-call of the cruise.

    Thanks again

  10. Very well done. Picture quality was excellent. One minor editing suggestion..... you might trim the front part down a bit. Really enjoyed it as we are doing a full transit in Jan (first time). Thanks for the effort you put into this.

Thank you! I thought that as well, but I left it in for the sunrise.

Well done Mark! We transited the canal in 2014 and I regret not having invested more time on video and TL. I took many still photos though. I guess I will just have to book another canal transit so I can video it!

What are you using for your TL, camera and software, wise? I've just been getting into it and playing with the capabilities of both LRTimelapse and PremierPro.

    Thank You!

I used a GoPro Hero 5 Black for the side shots and a Hero 5 session for the rear. Both set to T/L video mode. I varied the interval between 2 and 1 seconds between some of the battery changes.

I'm using Cyberlink PowerDirector as my video editing software. Video editing is still a new project for me.

  11. I still haven't decided if I will do a review of our 28 Oct - 11 Nov 2017 Ocean to Ocean Panama Canal Cruise on the Island Princess. Mainly because I shot 1000's of photos and deciding which to post is daunting.

I will start with a Time Lapse of our Gatun Lock transit. I'm still processing the videos of Gatun Lake and the remaining locks.

This video is a little long at around 7 minutes, but I think it's watch worthy. This is also my first attempt using two cameras, so the transitions may not be the best.

Please leave comments of what you think of the video and if I should spend the time and effort to post more Photos and Videos.

    Thanks,

    Mark
