Showing my ignorance, but what do you get for $200 with a spa pass?
-
I get what you are saying, but you suddenly find that with a balcony room there are things you can do in your room - like watching the sailaway, quiet reading when at sea, a drink before dinner, an early morning coffee .... the list is endless.
Saying that, for me any cabin on a ship means a great vacation.
I concur, we had a balcony once and it was great, an aft balcony no less...but it was dirt cheap on Costa... a 10-day Cruise. Otherwise, hard to justify the cost.
-
We are traveling with our DD who is 4. Those who have been before do you recommend floor or banquet seating considering here age.
If there is a cost involved I might give it a couple of years. IMO
-
Absolutely.
I can't imagine how people can enjoy a cruise in a windowless bunker of a room.
We only sleep in our room and change clothes, everything else is outside the room we don't feel we're wasting money at all.
-
Show me! Hard to believe you can upgrade from an inside to a balcony for only $300 total.

Just booked a 2017 sailing. Price may have gone up $50 pp but free gratuities is worth $94.50 or a net saving of $44.50 pp. Not bad.
Theoretically you probably didn't save anything. Simply avoided paying more. Had you booked 8 months ago and paid gratuities separately it would probably still have been less than your current total net. Mine was (is). [emoji1]
Couldn't book...the website browser kept saying, please wait....:mad:then nothing..
doesn't the free stuff end today? :(

It's not about whether the rules are enforced. It's also not about what others do. It's about what the rules are and whether you decide to abide by them or ignore them. And the rule is, no shorts at dinner time. Just because 5 other people are doing 100 miles an hour on the highway with no police around, it's not suddenly legal and OK for you to drive 100 miles an hour as well.

Why even reply with this snark? Go back under your rock, I asked because I saw a 1st day daily that said shorts could be worn on Bermuda today but wanted to ask anyway
The comment was not directed to you specifically, it was directed to those who do not wish to follow the current guidelines. If you saw a note in the daily that referred to wearing shorts in the main dining room then why did you even bother asking the question? The celebrity FAQ's reference number 478 is quite clear on what can be worn in the main dining room restaurant and theater. Adhere to it or not.

If you don't think rules apply to you then wear whatever you want. Because, you probably will anyhow.

I'll vouch for the pants - as I am a sweat hog/claustrophobe - but they made of light waterprrof stretchy material & if you are hot, you can roll the bottoms up & button them up to get some air circulation around your ankle.
That's what I did in Ketchikan, and no one dared call me capri boy LOL!

If you are strictly asking about what to use only for light hiking, walking around the port & even for kayaking then you would be comfortable with:
1 pair of hiking pant in my prior post,
1 fleece pullover or sweatshirt,
1 long sleeve tee or base layer, and one rain jacket
and a tennis/trail shoe.
Got it. Thx. The 50 to 60 degree temps won't be much different than they are in Ohio so we'll be just fine. Thx for all your input.

I actually did a port by port 15 year weather analysis using weatherunderground's historical numbers for each day that we would be in port & it was pretty much accurate for late July.
I am not sure what the temps would be like in late August but when we were there it felt like early spring late winter in the mid-atlantics i.e. high 50's low 60's.
Ketchikan - history = possible rain; actual = no rain
Juneau - history= certain rain; actual = rain
Skagway - history = certain rain; actual = rain
Victoria - history = sunny; actual = sunny
Seattle - history = sunny; actual = sunny
Pardon me, as I don't know if these are the same ports that your trip will call upon.
That said, I tend to wear shorts from April - October but still invested in this pant for all 3 AK ports. They were perfect for our AK hikes (no glacier hopping for us), are versatile & not too heavy for my hot sweaty self.
And you could actually use it in the dining rooms & not feel out of place.
Victoria & Seattle are for sure shorts weather. After you come back from AK, Victoria & Seattle felt downright hot.
Another excellent reply thanks. Those are our ports exactly and I've done the weather layout as well without the actuals. I think we'll be fine.
P.S. the pants look a little heavy for me, but I have a pair similar and they are packed already.

I was just there 2 weeks ago off the Jewel.
It was rainy, wet & the paths + area immediately surrounding the base of the fall was flooded out.
So we couldn't get to the actual fall base.
But all the paved or wood plank trails around the glacier & fall were all traversable with regular tennis shoe at the very least.
We even did the hardier east glacier loop trail (1.5 miles all the way around) under those conditions with out any problems for my 80 year old Dad.
Yes, a water resistant goretex shoe might make you "feel" better but you are NOT anywhere near impassable conditions or ankle high flooded walk ways.
If anything you'd want something with a few more nubs on the bottom sole for traction but not bulky like a hiker.
My preference is a trail runner & mine was this 7 years old shoe.
Otherwise, a tennis shoe with good traction will get you safely & comfortably through!
Good info, thx. Additionally, I wear shorts from April-Nov...will that work in 2 weeks when we're there? Layers, hoodies, other outer wear needed?

Thanks! I haven't decided which itinerary to book yet so I wanted to get ideas on must-visit ports to help me narrow down the list. :)
NCL sails the full transit out of Miami and Los Angeles and is 14 days in length if you have the time. The Pacific ports are all of Interest none better than the other in our opinion.
-
For those of you that have sailed a Panama Canal cruise (full or partial transit), which were your favorite ports and why?
Been through the Panama Canal 3 years in a row. There are no bad ports, they're all good , some just better than others. Make the best of each of them while you're there. [emoji1]

Did you walk around at Mendenhall Glacier if so were your feet dry or did you wear boots?
-
What can you or anyone tell me about Footwear at Mendenhall glacier? Just regular shoes or boots required?
-
this makes sense to me. The cruise apparently was sold out in the lower price categories and was indeed oversold. They withheld selling every last cabin in high categories in order to have room to accommodate their surplus passengers. Airlines have been doing this for a very long time.
I hear what you're saying however I could understand it if they would move the lower-level folks to the next level and then step ladder the rest of them up into the high-end units. Moving a low end unit to the highest level makes no sense they should be promoting those that paid more into the higher level and so on down the line so I must disagree with the concept although it may be true. As for moving an economy class airline passenger to First Class I have never heard of it.

Has anyone ever been upgraded from an inside guarantee to concierge class? Just happened to me - I'm still in shock. Celebrity is a great cruise line. ;)

Now why would a cruise line give you an upgrade when they just sold out that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I have sailed NCL to Alaska twice and the Panama Canal doesn't even compare to the Beauty and Majesty of the Scenery in Alaska!!! Want to go a third time as we speak!!!
Two totally different cruises not to be compared. We've sailed the Panama Canal three consecutive years and we're now finished with it...off to Alaska in August for a brand new experience.
Don't underestimate the Pacific itinerary of the Panama Canal.

I am concerned that if you need someone to "convince you" to do a Canal transit, you quite possibly don't have enough inherent interest in the Canal -- the history, the construction, the operation -- to make the trip worth your while. I would suggest you look at photos, videos, read up on the Canal, read reviews of Canal transits, and decide whether you would find the experience interesting. The fact that someone else found it fascinating doesn't mean you will. By the same token, the fact that someone else didn't doesn't mean you won't.
Amen!

I'm sure I'll get hammered for this but why do you pay for food on a cruise?

can a PCC do anything for you after you book?

A term I like to use for us too, "low maintenance".
