So off the 1/2 dozen or so of us whitely dressed adventurers go to continue our great evening. Down the plank and thru the hut and up the street (5 mins total to the entrance of Snorkel Park). It kinda looks like a cave entrance but is actually an old fort opening. Immediately and without delay you are required to pay a requisite 10 dollars cover. (Five in the day) This entire area is owned by one company and contains the beach and the Hammerheads food and drink venue. In the day there is snorkel equipment...hence....I love that word...hence the name Snorkel Park Beach. You traverse a grassy area and approach a 2 or 3 level structure resembling a large hut.

Pics taken from Bermuda site as well as some of my own for Snorkel Park, tonite and tomorrow.

It is quite large inside and appears to be filled with a mixture of locals and tourists. The drinks are easy to come by as the bar is large and they have a ton of bartendes. The prices are not easy on the wallet however.

The music is loud but the sound is very high tech and whoever or wherever this DJ may be they are spinning some very good very hip danceable tunes. I did not see a dedicated dance floor nor actually anybody dancing but it was conducive to place grooving...(standing in one place and swaying your hips as if you are the coolest dancer on the planet) There were many pro place dancers.

Locals love to have there pictures taken with the girls.

So after we all dropped a hundred bucks and had a 1/2 dozen or more shots and beers and we were truly hammered heads and it was going on 2:00 AM (no sign this place was slowing down) we decided to pub hop crawl back to The Beautiful Norwegian Star and call it a night.

  2. Ok Kev, as directed by you, I came here last night to start reading your Beautiful Star review. At this point, I'm not too sure I like you...I was up until 4 am last night (well this morning) because I can't pull myself away. I have sat for hours holding my urine (which I don't do well to begin with-no worries, some near misses, but no accidents) because I wanted to see what happened next. I missed dinner tonight because, well I forgot about it because I was so in to this story...so now I'm munching on pretzels instead. My husband thinks I have "issues" because I keep busting out laughing for no apparent reason. My contacts are now glued to my eyes from the dryness. I keep feeling like I need some type of fruity banana dirty something or other in my hand and I have to work again tomorrow for the 50,000th day in a row. My stomach hurts from laughing so hard (or is that because I forgot to eat? I think it's a toss-up between the two). I have tons of comments and questions from different things but didn't take the time to hit the "you're only allowed to reply to 3 quotes per post" button, so I guess I'm now forced to reread the entire story once you are done and try to recall what all I wanted to comment on and ask questions on. :p

Whew...I hope you get this story done with before I leave on my cruise on the Beautiful Norwegian Star in 8 days, 9 hours, 8 minutes, and 36 seconds...but who's counting. :D

**edit** btw, it's now 3am...once again, I'm still awake. whew

Thank's Mitsu...I knew you would love it....As you know I am a grad student with 2 masters so papers and stuff are coming out the ying yang but rest assured this week we will finish this review. We only have 3 days left but you will be ready for next week.

Ask anything anytime....I'm here to make you laugh and give my advice.

    Kev:cool:

  3. OP also posted on Face book and NCL said email them and they will work with him ....

NCL will always try to make you happy. I have found in the past that after having booked from NCL the fare went down, months later on my old TA's rate and on the NCL rate as well.

Although I was not owed any adjustment...(the price was $175.00 lower) ...NCl did offer me a $100.00 OBC which I thought was over and above and I had a great time with that OBC.

  4. LOL - He was quite the character! I heard he is now with RCC. I did not go the White Hot Party on the Star. I have been to a few and I agree with you that the outside experience is outstanding. I enjoyed the Bermuda Triangle Party this time around on the Star as it was poolside. Although I liked the new Spinnaker well enough, it gets crowded fast. It was very crowded for the Captain's Party, Lattitudes Party and the Wine and Cheese Party. I decided it would be way too crowded to get the full effect of the White Hot Party. I did want to stop in to see if they played Party Rock Antheim, as I am a huge fan. Although I cannot shuffle. :(

Yes indeed Party Rock Anthem was a highlight as well as Time(of my life) and Taio Cruz Higher were the best but Usher DJ got us falling in love again was my favorite. And Pit Bull and Chris Brown...That DJ Girl knows how to spin em....which made up for the venue. It's nice enough, don't get me wrong, just not set up for this kind of event. I agree Latitudes was crowded, but remeber Kev snagged prime real estate LOL

  5. Wait a minute. Kev - Is this former NCL Cruise Director John Ibraham? (spelling)

I believe so, ...Like I said I took pics from a variety of White Hot Parties....Cause the Star pics I had were bleaaahhhh and I knew people wanted to know about White Hot's etc...

I guess its hard to forget a face like that ha?

    Kev:D

What did you think of the Star's White Hot compared to others?

So a couple of hours of an always enjoyable White Hot and it is time to move on to different pastures, cause...quite simply the Spinnaker is too claustrophobic for me....Rows of chairs, and smallish dance flooor and not a real bar area for scmoozing, but OK at the back of Spinnaker. like I said....It is great for first timers but if you are an Old White Hot Man like me...you yearn....you yearn for the past. Anyway's I decide it is time to head on shore and try the Hammerheads bar in the Snorkel park. I was partying with half a dozen or more 30 somethings and we all thought this was agreat idea. So off we go..onshore and more

  7. So an NCL White Hot Party is generally to get hot and sweaty and dance and have a ball. Every ship is different but most follow the same menu....Crew wears angels wings or really over the top white outfits. Music is always by a DJ and always very danceable. The first hour...kids are allowed with their families, usually 9:30 ish to 11:00 ish...After that it is strictly adults only. the decor is white over the top,....with streamers and baloons and feathers and white on white on white. The Crew will really get people pumping with dance music and teaching great line dances....people will, do and generally get drunk, so that white becomes pink when the fruity drinks spill.

That is a White hot Part in a nutshell.

Here is where it gets iffy. Many big ships when in the Caribbean or Bermuda or a warm port will hold the party out on the pool deck or with EPIC in Spice H2o...or in some cases in Galaxy of Stars or Spinnaker in a top deck with walls of windows. The Star had only the Spinnaker Lounge.....below decks and not atmospheric. Some Ships like the Star have removed their top lounges for new cabins and built venues like this Stars Spinnaker Lounge.

I do not like it. If you cannot have it outdoors(and they can't, the slided pool deck is simply not conducive to a White Hot Party) or in a top lounge, then you are relegated to this Star's Spinnaker.

The menu may be the same but the food is not as good.

Still it is a great party and here are some pics NCL White Hot Parties as well as the Star's.

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRHIYMQxllml7JTmokWkBRJ3NkXIxwgwZsF67JUNocTOMhUiEqMimages?q=tbn:ANd9GcRDYYuUwA-NdUN9ORZjYK0f88ueB0Uv5YRfEQrOAGt2BFVBindpBNr9apPk

This is why a pool deck is better.

But indoors can be great as well images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQOD1P6B4DtczAjhREjejjM99QuwqxMPDCF6L0Ni_h-ogZohP9O

If the party is outdoors it generally moves indoors after midnight so you will always get an indoor anyways.

  8. So after I finished strolling around the full wrap around Promenade.( Wrap around entire ship promenades ar becoming a thing of the past on the new mega builds, simply because the first half or 2/3rds is enough space for life boats or as the new Breakaway.... dining spots that they can stick cabins in that precious promenade space.) The only thing with the Star's promenades is that the very front promenade area maybe 100 feet is closed off for forward viewing....so it is like a white steel tunnel for a few secs....

So back down to 5502, turn right...got it this time....thru the full pizza box maze....do these same cabins live in eternal hope? Once bitten twice shy is my motto.

    On the topic of pizza.

The one disappointing thing I find about NCL is they do not have a small pizzeria on board. Sure you can go to buffet and get half way decent slice but only till 9:00 then its room service pizza.

Anyways...into my room and turn on Bridge Channel. We are in Bermuda. Docked it appears....and the temp is 79 degrees and it is dark.

Change into white long pants,... white long sleeve rolled up and a silver-white tie hung loosely...and off white dock shoes. Me be ready in advance...thats the first thing I pack.....No pics cause nobody to shoot me....but on land I would easily get shot with this outfit:D...LOL

So down to the atrium to see who is sporting white and there are quite a few if not most. If any passengers forgot that all important white the ships store was doing a brisk business of selling White Hot T shirts at 20 bucks a pop. Lesson...do not forget your whites....however the T shirt does make a nice souvenier that you will never ever wear anywhere on land lest you get shot.LOL again:D

Next up...The White Hot Party or night of the winged angel parade

  9. So Kev, when are you going to Bermuda again?

I'm pretty sure that everyone reading this thread would love to travel with you to Bermuda or any cruise for that matter......

Such an entertainer! Loving it and glad your back, I was worried you weren't going to finish :p

Staying tuned for the White Hot party!

Thank's Waverley. I am sailing on the Breakaway next June 09. We have a great bhoard for CC and we already have 130 passengers and still 6 months out. Many people on this thread are going. We have meet n Greet Team, ...we have a countdown master...We have a passenger manifest Guy (Roll Call Keeper) That be Me....I will also be doing a free scooter tour and I am sure we will have a sail away party and some slot pulls as well.

  10. So up the middle gangplank and up to the main atrium and toward aft and passed the queen's staircase and looked over and saw the usual suspects at the Champagne Bar.....:o So I scooted past the casino down the stairs to 5 and left to 5502 then right to 5502, tripped over a full pizza box..insert card open ...TV and movie Channel has Rock of Ages, the part where Russell Brand is kissing Alec Baldwin...of course and quick shower....dress in Island Gear...(White goes on after the Au jus) Khakis and nice polo(Bermuda sea blue) Kev has style .. and boat shoes....and up to my reserved stool at the Champagne Bar....Seat still there and a very quick It's Mr kevin...cheers all around and a drink in front of me bought by somebody nice. It was a fruity frozen something made with lots of rum which I just had so I was impressed with everyone's drink prowess....Sip then sip then chat and chat and discuss my day. people did not believe what I actually had done....no way....but when you have a scooter and know where to go it is easy. I ate a glass or 2 of the famous bar trail mix, that everyone eventually get's addicted to.Most everyone was dressed Island Style or White Party style. Everyone said the lines for Aqua and Versailles were hefty as it was Prime Rib Night. Some were going at 8:30 or 9:00 and invited me...but I didn't want to wait because that would put me out at 10:00 or later and that was not acceptable to Kev.....so I had another fruity and took it with me....said my adieu's cause a single can usually get in pronto anytime....So off to Aqua and Bammmm....as Emeril would say.....Bammmm...Maybe 50 people in the hall...but it was 8;00 after all.I went to desk, gave my name and the very nice hostess,...all staff and all hostess' are very nice.. told me 1/2 hour. I said OK, what else was I gonna do. So ten minutes later I am in.

So I ordered a Frozen White Russian (white party...get it) and told waitress we could make it quick cause it was busy....No Apetizer, Prime Rib, Rare, Rice whatever veggie your tossing at me, close menu, thank you very much.

10 minutes as I finished my fruity I get a White Party Russian and 10 minutes later I get a juicy Prime Rib. Well at least it was medium rare and I knifed off a slab and tasted it and it really was quite good. 5 Minutes later sweetheart waitress says is evrythink Ok...MMMM. Please bring me another just like it and she doesn't bat an eye ..and says no problem....I love NCL.

So stuffed with my Prime Rib I forego the desset and get my check and leave a nice tip and the whole Prime Rib affair took 40 minutes. Yep..single has it's advantages. So feeling stuffed I walked up to 7 and hit the promenade. it was a gorgeous night as it had been since we arrived. like 78 degress....Moon...Stars Galore and so I had a smoke, sat in a lounger and remenisced about my day, thought about my night and chatted with the walkers by. I then decided to actually walk off my Rib which I did three times around.

    Next up: White Hot Party:D

    Kev:cool:

  11. Kev - Hope all is going well with your grad work. Thanks for taking the time from your hectic schedule to give us an update. I noted you sailed on the beautiful Majesty. I loved that smaller ship. It had lots of charm. Anyway, the boards are moving fast these days. I will make an effort to keep your thread afloat while your busy. :)

    Thank's Camz;

I just finished a paper and am not gonna start another one until Wednesday so maybe I can get us to Friday:D

    Kev

  12. So I walked all around...about a half/hour and as I approached the end of the docks, right before you go over the Bridge and out of the Dockyard, I saw a little white store, that said something like.....Dockyard Marine Store. The only important thing the sign said was Liquors(Oh My) Snacks, fuel, marine supplies. The shell crushed parking area was small and had a couple of cars and a couple of scooters and seawall had 1/2 a dozen picnic tables with umbrellas. It overlooked the docks and afforded a great view of the Explorer as well. So I sashayed on in and parked my ass at a picnic table and thought I might read a little. Not only that I had my Kindle too ...so I sat and I pulled out my book stuff and noticed an ashtray on the table(s) in buckets filled with sea rocks. very nice I thought. Then on the store wall and on a sign a ways down was NO SMOKING....FUEL AREA. I'm like helllooooo why the ashtrays(and people smokin) So I moved to the last picnic table away from the fuel station. And now here comes the fun part. Ther are people sitting on each side and they have a few bags of hooch and some pepsis etc....Now they looked like Ship tourists and definetly a few ships crew so I decided when in Bermuda!!!No one looked derilect and no one looked embarressed and although I never did this form of imbibing I went in. I bought a 1/2 pint of Bacardi and a huge pepsi for $9.00(about the price of 1 drink and went back to my table. I guiltily poured some pepsi off and added the 1/2 pint and resealed and shook. Since I never did this before(do any of you believe that) And I opened the bottle and....what......here it comes.....wait.....did u guess......pssssshhhhhh sop. 1/2 the bottle flew out all over me. LOL

So I washed up with my baby wipes(Always carry a pack of Baby Wipes:rolleyes:) that I always carry and took out my book.

    It was peaceful and scenic.

    bth_StarKingsWharf2012058.jpg?t=2254550640

So I read and I sipped-gulped and caught a little buzz and it was getting dark so I schmoozed back to The Beautiful Norwegian Star.

Next Up: Prime Rib(s) and Happy hour at the Champagne Bar. Happy Hour at the Champagne Bar is 7:00-8:00

  13. So Kev vrooomed down the hill from the lighthouse and turned right and within 20-30 minutes I was back at the Royal naval Dockyard. This was my first time into this port as all my other times I docked at St George.(Majesty, twice, Dream twice) So I parked my trusty scooter in the parking area between the 2 ships and camera in hand I set forth. The light was still very good so I snapped some shots. I didn't go into any tourist stuffcause I was saving that for my last day tomorrow. e.g. Snorkel park, Fort and Museum...etc

The Dockyard is actually quite comprehensive and what is here and what you can do is more complex than most ports esp. Caribbean ports which are just usually some shops, and some grab u bars like Carlos and Senor Frogs etc...

So this is the Royal naval Dockyard

    bth_StarKingsWharf2012017-1.jpg?t=2254550640

The RCCI Explorer. It is a beautiful ship and has very nice classic lines Kev wanted to try this ship....BUT cost for 1 in an inside was $1200.00 higher than the Star and besides I am an NCL loyalist.

    bth_StarKingsWharf2012050.jpg?t=2254550640

The anchorage is quite large and I noticed it had about 100 slips with many gorgeous(see $$$$) boats

Next Up:Late afternoon party for 1.

    Kev

  14. Good call! Bermuda is amazing...... Kev has a knack for writing and photography. Great combination. Stay tuned, he is due back soon.

Indeed Kev is still here and will continue ASAP. As you all know I am a grad student and this is the time of year I am buried with Seminar reseach papers, but I have so many loyal followers that I don't want to lose,so I will take an hour or so and post tonite.

    Thanks all;

    Kev

Up next: Royal Dockyard , drinks on the pier, and The White Hot Party.

  15. So I luxuriated in the pink sand, and I body surfed in the aquamarine waves and I chatted with many beachgoers and I had a grand time. But by 4:00 I was bored so I vvvvrooooomed up the hill beating the van goers at $2:00 a pop and turned left and headed home....until I remembered and saw the sign for the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse...which made Kev say hey...you have been to Bermuda a 1/2 dozen times and never actually did the Lighthouse...so right and up a hill and down a road and park and visit.

    Very Cool Tall lighthouse.

So you are supposed to be able and stable enough to climb this behemoth, which I did ...about halfway and then said...Why....What will my world change if I do this...and then I said go for it and I did and I made it and I was happy.

  16. So I left beautiful and historic St Georges and traveled through over the narrow roads and bridges and then over the large Causeway and passed the Swizzle Inn (No Swizzle Hurricane for Kev)and the entrance to the Crystal caves. I have done the caves in the past and I highly recommend it as they are spectacular and worth the excuersion (on your own)

Check out their website: http://www.caves.bm/ They have a great video that you can access:

Then on to the canopy Road and past the Mid Ocean Club Golf Course and back onto the South Coast Road and zzzzroooommmm down the hill and Kev is back at Horseshoe Bay beach and it is 3:00. I was gonna go and do the Dockyard but I have all day tomorrow to do what I have done before so I figured that I would relax on the beach, in the semi big waves today and then zzzzzrooom back to the Dockyard around 5:00 PM.

    Which is what I did.

  20. OH My God:eek: What should I wear?What should I pack?

    Clothing

Think smart casual. The atmosphere of our island is still imbued with British reserve and decorous informality. Modesty is the prevailing rule, whether you are swimming at the beach or walking through town.

    • Bathing suits, abbreviated tops and short shorts may be worn at our beaches and pools, but a cover-up is wise off the beach
    • The beaches are relaxed, but there are no nude or semi-nude beaches on our island
    • Casual sportswear may be worn at lunchtime in our restaurants, but many dining establishments and nightclubs ask gentlemen to wear a jacket in the evenings
    • When making dinner reservations, it is always wise to check on dress requirements

    Season-by-Season: What to Wear

In the warmer months (May to mid-November), make sure to pack:

    • Summer-weight sports clothes, swimsuits, a raincoat or lightweight windbreaker for daytime activities
    • Evenings call for casual elegant cottons, with ladies in a light dressy sweater or cocktail-type outfits and gentlemen in a sports jacket and tie

In the cooler months (December to late March), visitors should bring:

    • Light woolens or fall-weight casuals, sweaters, a raincoat, windbreaker or coat and, as always, swimsuits for the daytime
    • Evenings deserve elegant lightweight woolens, with ladies in a dressier sweater or cocktail attire and gentlemen in a suit or sports jacket and tie
