  1. I am absolutely loving your review! We are cruising on Oasis for the first time in April for my 29th birthday and my 5th wedding anniversary. SO I am trying to be as prepared as possible. On a cruise I base life off of the cruise compass, did you happen to take photos of the daily cruise compass, that you wouldn't mind sharing? Also, 2 huge things that are a must for me, do you know which evening the quest and love and marriage are? and times? I am trying to plan our show times, but with the later dinner I may have to move some stuff around to accommodate them. Looking forward to reading more of your review, and hope you're enjoying your vacation!

I don’t know how to put the link on but I put all the compasses on my Oasis Cruise 3rd December review. If you search me you might find it. [emoji16]

  2. My sister and I were on the Serenade of the Seas docked Costa Maya when the bus accident occurred. We had talked about taking the excursion but decided to go relax at the beach instead.....thank you Lord!! One of the passengers that was on the bus did die during the night after the accident. The ship was very subdued for the rest of the cruise. I had heard that the bus drivier was speeding. My sis and I noticed on the way to the beach that day that the highway had curbs.....and were told that the speeding bus hit the curb and then flipped. So very sad. I'm going to have to rethink every going on another cruise line or independent excursion!! My thoughts and prayers to all of the victims, family and friends.

It’s nothing to do with cruise line. It’s a 3rd party that does the excursions. All cruise lines probably use the same ones.

  3. I know this is an old thread but thought I'd ask - while sailing on the Symphony, I will become Emerald which I believe gives you perks for booking a balcony. I was looking at booking the Oasis transatlantic while on board (if the deal is better than online). My questions are:

Would they take my status before I sailed or while I'm sailing (Gold or Emerald)?

Would I get the balcony discount and the OBC?

There are no deals for next year yet so will be keeping eye out up to May when I sail.

    Thank you.

  4. I did it last year. Rome is too short a day to do everything (that’s why we have booked again for this year). I got to do what I wanted in Naples and Pompeii within half a day. Did what I wanted in Florence and Pisa within a day (not much to do at Pisa). Done Palma a lot but again, it depends what you want to do but I’d say there’s plenty of time. Marseille, I won’t be doing anything so can’t answer that one.

  5. Keep in mind that the speed will vary considerable depending upon what you are doing and your device settings. Any cruise ship has to route the internet through satellites. That means that a normal signal latency in much much longer then the normal 50-100 milliseconds that one normally sees when dealing with a home computer or cell phone on land. For satellite it runs around 600 milliseconds (6/10's of a second) just for a packet of information to transfer and be acknowledged. Depending upon the setup of the devices at each end that can slow things down tremendously, especially for interactive applications. The vendors providing the services have down quite a bit to minimize the impact, but the latency problem is major.

As such a ship internet will never be as fast as a good land based system due to a simple thing called speed of light. You can calculate the minimum latency by calculating the altitude of a geosynchronous satellite, and then use the speed of light to calculate how long it would take the electromagnetic signal to travel from the ship to the satellite, then back to a ground station.

Wow, that has gone straight over my head but I’m sure you’re right. [emoji6]

I was on Oasis and never had a problem. It was quick and reliable.

  7. Hi Alex,

Happy New Year to you too when it comes. Thanks for the info for flights to/from Scotland, it will come in handy nearer the time. We're on Jewel Eastbound this May, and then we're hopefully booking Oasis Eastbound for 2019.

Did you have a boardwalk balcony on Harmony? Did you like it? could you see the Aqua shows from it and was it port side or starboard?

Lorraine, has given me info for CP balconies, I have a friend who is trying to gain as much info as possible before they decide to book too!!!

    Margaret

I had a Boardwalk Balcony on the 3rd December sailing and I loved it. I was right at the start of them in 12293 and could see the Aqua theatre but struggled to see one corner. The further you are towards the theatre the more you see.

You have the ringing of the bell of the carousel till 10pm and the music at the theatre is very loud but again, not on late. I really liked having the soda package included in the deal. Saved me £55 for the week. 137a887ca3348ad2dfe5bc0019270721.jpg

  8. For flights for this cruise have a look at Thomas Cook Airlines, they are flying from Manchester to Orlando the day before and I think the Thursday before the cruise (they actually have the prices on their website now!!) for approx. £400 one way

Then all you need to find is a flight from Barcelona home

    Margaret

Thanks for info. Don’t normally find the flights out so early.

I’ll take a look. I generally fly with Virgin but only have flights up to the end of November. Also, I use Vueling back to Manchester from Barcelona on previous and up and coming cruise so I’ll take a look at them too.

    Thanks again. [emoji846]

  9. I was on the Epic in May and wasn’t impressed with the ship. The bathrooms are frosted glass with the sink in the cabin and a curtain to separate the bathroom to the cabin. The balcony cabin layout is very tight.

It just doesn’t have the nice flow of RCI ships.

I agree about some of the shows are not really child friendly though I don’t have any children. On an adult perspective, I prefer the late shows with RCI, also the bellyflop and sexiest man competitions. Ha ha.

Though I do prefer the buffet food and the staff were wonderful.

I will be travelling on Symphony in May doing the same itinerary as I have places I didn’t get to see.

  10. No they don't normally honour price drops in UK anymore. We book through US TA. We've found transatlantic prices are usually best when they are first released or after final payment, but then flights can be higher after final.

Ahh, I was thinking about the flights. It’s nearly 3 times as much for a single ticket than a return.

I would get $200 OBC if I book on the Symphony at the Next Cruise desk but then the price may go up.

There’s so much to think about! [emoji37]
