  1. Today I spent some time reading the official CDC guidelines to reopening cruising..there are several documents on the CDC website about this.....most recently updated last week...the guidelines seem very explicit and harsh....according to what I read, the cruise lines have to be able to control any outbreak of any communicable illness on board, therefore not using any port resources.  It also listed the types  and depth of medical facilities on board most ships.  You can go to cdc cruise guidelines to find this. Too many directives from cdc to list .

  2. As I understand it , it was a suggestion not a requirement...I went  back to both websites and never saw where it was any type of requirement.....I am not an attorney so I don’t know the  legal aspects of a cdc directive...but it seems RCL took it and ran in a different direction then other lines....

  3. Excellent take on what is going on.....Regardless of how you acquired your FCC.....if it was acquired prior to the “fit to sail”.you should get a refund if you can prove you are in a listed categories.  Instituting the “fit to Sail” means Celebrity changed the terms of the contract , not the cruiser.

  4. I have often wondered if the cruise lines read these posts.....if they do, I wonder if they realize the people here are the ones that potentially will bring the lines back....we have been cruising for 50 years....when I see members of CC saying “ they may not cruise again”.  Makes me very sad...I have probably seen may of you at an Elite cocktail hour or in a lounge....I may not know your names but I might recognize your face.....I will miss the joy of getting on the ship and having a crew member remember your name  or your face from a previous cruise. Sorry.....just reminiscing of a time that may never come again.....I wAnt to cruise again but with the health requirement,I may not be able to.....people who have never cruised don’t understand the bonds you make with other cruisers and why you keep going back.....land trips are great but will never be like cruising.

  5. I was told that it would depend on what compensation was offer on that round of cancellations.   This was by Celebrity.....they are having trouble refunding the current cancellations.....I doubt that they will offer refunds in the future.

  6. Our cruises cancellation goes a step further.   We cancelled under the CWC , knowing we would only get FCC...we the rebooked for November 2020....All this was before the March 14  announcement of the Doctors note requirement....We would not have cancelled our cruise and actually taken the cruise (reluctantly) if we would have known about the note.   As I understand it , the Doctors note was a suggestion not a requirement by CDC.    I am currently working with a cruise advocacy group to help me put this in perspective.   There advice so far is to wait......I have until September 1to reschedule.....the take is that the note will go away....

    • Maybe the demographics of the polls are right. .that is  if you base it on all  cruise lines....Carnival has a much younger demographic then HAL and Celebrity....even Royal has a younger clientele then Celebrity.....my kids don’t care much for Celebrity but love Carnival and Royal.....Do we spend more.....I would say yes. We are lucky enough to travel in Suites....still enjoy cocktails....spend money in ports...and enjoy special dining....we also go on longer trips.  When we travel as a family , we end up paying for the majority of the cruise...Over the past few days I have come to the conclusion to let this just play out.   Celebrity owes us money and FCC... but I don’t think they know how to handle this yet.
  7. I have been on many cruises where Americans have needed doctors in various countries...thinking about cruisers that rent motorbikes in Asia and Bermuda...I have seen accidents on board that have required airlifting to local hospitals....I understand this is different.....I am not debating that.....going back to this thread...age seems to be the issue....that is what I am challenging.   Making it difficult for 70 + to cruise will not solve the problem. In North Carolina, as of this morning.....40% + of the cases are under 50.   So the illness will still exist and has the potential of still causing the same problems on the ship.

  8. I understand what you are saying but the severity of the ill passengers was not what kept the ships out of ports....just the idea of a respiratory illness made ports close their docks..   That probably will not change..regardless of a cruisers age.   This is truly a difficult situation.  One case of Norvo could do the same thing.....trust was lost between port authorities and the cruise lines . There is no simple answer.

  9. Most people on this thread have been very helpful....I am upset about this “  fit to cruise letter” as it may end our cruising forever.......but will it really matter in the end.....if someone over 70 gets ill or someone in their 30’s gets ill with a respiratory illness ..the result is the same for the ship.......no ports and adrift at sea....the older person may have a worst outcome .....that’s a chance we all take when we board....Thanks again for all the replies...
