  1. Patches were just a series of bad side effects, Bonine for the daytime and Dramamine for at night.

You need to keep up on taking the Bonine.  I have also avoided the Caribbean for quite a while. but have also done most of the cruises offered (East, West and Southern) .  Transatlantics,   Alaska and the Med have never been an issue for me.  I get seasick very easily but it it is possible I have gotten better as I have aged.

I am on the Gem right now.  I  bring an inexpensive universal remote to use for changing input to HDMI.  Works fine, just needs a little fiddling with the controls.  Connecting HDMI cable to TV can be a little tricky, based on where the input port is.  Also, HDMI port may be a little dirty due to non use, but it works. Just requires a little patience.  Good luck!

Thank you for replying nothing better than someone is there right now!

  3. I had something similar on my last cruise ship docked in the AM so we were off  by 10AM and flight was at 11 PM I had applied for a credit card with bonus points for Hilton a while ago  and I used points to book 2 nights the night before and that day so I could check in anytime I wanted as well as out.

We checked in and the concierge was a little surprised by my planning but as we were going out to explore Rio a little later there was a huge line of people trying to check in and drop off their bags.  We had a great relaxing day and it was worth every point I paid!

  4. I would contact someone who is on a cruise now  check some of the other sites where people show their faces and you can probably find someone. Alternatively you could check a roll call for an upcoming cruise and ask them to check and report back.  Nothing better than the horses mouth, of course their  breath is usually not the best!

  5. Cannot comment on Gem but our TV on the  Star had a swing mount and you could get to all of the ports with ease.  It was very easy to connect my long 25'  HDMI cable up to it and connect my laptop to it.  Looking at the cabins it should be on a swivel so it should be just as easy.  I unplugged the HDMI cable and plugged in mine as I recall.  But was very easy I have a whole bag of angle adapter to get into  the sets that are bolted to the wall.

  6. Yes first rule of thumb for issues is desktop then different browser make sure you don't have an add blocker or other add on to your browser.  The best thing to do is to have a browser and save it for stuff you know is safe like going to your  bank or booking a cruise the other browser you can keep more restricted and use that for other internet stuff.

Will they offer this twice on an 11 day cruise? That would be great!

I haven't heard any complaints on the quality of the laundry service on NCL. Do they do a good job? When I sailed Celebrity there were a lot of complaints of things coming back shrunk. Thanks!

I think the people grew 🙂

  8. The internet is also dependent on where your cruise is taking place I pretty much just do a Transatlantic so they are usually more of a challenge that a Simple 7 day East or Western Caribbean.

The cloud coverage can also make a difference with how much water is in the air.

  9. I would go for noon myself, if you are staying at a hotel it gives you time to get up pack have breakfast and then get to the ship.  I figure  there is plenty of time vs things to do on your first day to tell the truth.  I have checked in at 2PM before and there was no line at all just walked up at every point and was the only person there.

  10. Well if convenience is more important than cost do an Uber.   We did a car  rental once and it was fine but a lot of people do the same thing so the lot was overwhelmed and we had 15-20 minute wait times to drop off the car and then get our luggage on the shuttle.  But if you need a car to drive around during your 2 days just plan on having lines on the drop off.

This is, I think, about to change. It's being reported that Elon Musk's Starlink system is being/has been deployed on the NCL Breakaway and they plan to roll it out fleetwide.

Starlink has not worked well on Ships from what I have read the satellites are moving pretty fast and the ship has some movement too.  When you are using starlink it is like being on a cell phone in a low flying airplane you are always changing towers.   Here is a decent article http://www.satmagazine.com/story.php?number=1026762698

Not even sure where the coverage is since they all circle the globe so to speak.

I have had good speed with RCCL VOOM to tell the truth.

  12. Really like  Celebrity but you need to look at where you are going along with the size and age of the ship.

We have taken one cruise on Celebrity, three on Royal and two on NCL all Transatlantic cruises.

The larger ships are all pretty good, entertainment and speakers much better on Celebrity\Royal vs NCL.

Food hard to compare since I think everyone feels that food quality has dropped  overall.

Internet NCL is dead last overall and if that is a consideration don't bother.

NCL on the Star the crew we spoke to all mentioned the cramped crew quarters and how much better it was on the newer/larger ships.  Our cruise had about 400 empty cabins (1K below capacity) I  asked if they used the empty cabin bathrooms to get ready and he quickly said no, they all had to get ready at the same time so they got up 2-3 hours ahead of time so they could all be on time!

For value NCL is much less expensive in my opinion, we have a Med cruise booked for December and comparable cruises with Celebrity or Royal are more than 1K more the cruise is port heavy with only 1 day at sea.  So food is going to be breakfast and maybe dinner or not.  Entertainment we will probably skip the shows unless they have something in a small venue.

So you have to make sure you are comparing apples to apples and I think Celebrity will come out except for price where NCL will probably win!

  13. So you want the right side, just so you know you are going to have quite a few days where you will lose an hour each night.  It got old for us on our one Eastbound TA.  The weather also seemed to be cooler than going the other way in the Fall.  It seems it takes a while for the water to warm up and cool down.

My experience may have been uncommon but it was cool for most of the cruise.
