  1. Hi, just looking thru cruise critic tonight and came across your question. We sailed on the Splendor two yrs ago and will be going on it again May 3, in 51 days....Amsterdam to Budapest. We enjoyed the first trip ( tulips) so much that I couldn't wait to do another river cruise. The staff on the Splendor was very friendly and professional. They were always on time docking and leaving on tours. Food was great. My only complaint was the noise in the dining room during dinner. The acoustics are such that it was sometimes hard to carry on a conversation. There is dining area (Captains Club) that is more intimate and quiet that we did go to on occasion.

Rooms are well designed and have everything we needed. They supply soap, shampoo, hairdryer etc so that cuts down on what I need to bring. They are not large but we didn't spend much time in them during the day. I'm hoping we enjoy this trip as much as our first one.

  2. Yes that's right. No blue jeans. We were on the amsterdam/tulip cruise last year. Some poor guys luggage was lost and he showed up the first night in jeans. They weren't going to let him in until they understood the problem. Turned out he had to wear them practically the whole trip....his luggage finally got there the last day.

I wore jeans ( tan and a black pair just not blue) and nothing was said. You can wear them for other meals. If you are going with husband have him leave the sport jacket at hone. They recommend it for the captains dinner but at least 75% of the men had on a nice shirt and dockers.

  3. We were just in Amsterdam for 5 days before our river cruise. I called the phone number in the Vantage paperwork they sent me the morning of our cruise. They told me which dock they were at (there are 2 different docking areas). It happened to be in front of the Doubletree Hotel by Central Station so we just walked to it...about 2 blocks. We got on-board Round 10:30 am and drank coffee in the lounge until our room was ready.

  4. I had the same question since I will also be there in April. I emailed the museum and they said they are implementing a new computer system and it's taking longer than they anticipated to get it up and running. They said to keep checking back every day.

  5. Has anyone taken a river cruise on the Splendor and can give me some advice? We are taking the Splendor on a river cruise from Amsterdam next April. I read somewhere that a sport jacket was recommended for men in order to eat in the dining room. Is this necessary? My husband never wears one at home except to a wedding or a funeral and I really don't want to pack one. Would a nice shirt and khakis be OK? We try to pack only what is needed and a sport coat is not high on the list.(or even on the list!) Thanks for any info you can give me.
