  1. Last night we had dinner in MDR. Chicken noodle soup- the broth was very good. Caesar salad was good. Entree was fresh halibut and it was excellent. For dessert I tried the caramel stroopwaffel cheesecake. Nice flavour, but I don't think the stroopwaffel added anything.
  2. If you log into your booking and then Manage my Cruise, you can see what is available in each port.
  3. We have another tour tomorrow so I will look in on a sea day! We don't use the casino so I don't really know about the machines.
  4. We had snacks of trwil mix, granola bars and water. You may want to bring a lunch if you need more, it is a 5 hour tour. But it was a great day! Everyone enjoyed this tour.
  5. We took lots of photos and videos on my camera and DH's cell phone; I don't have the equipment or expertise to get closeups with moving objects but it was thrilling to see. The captain gave us a bonus ride to see the Mendenhall glacier from the boat, which was a great vantage point from the water. I'll have to sort through my other camera shots and download any good ones later. Once we got back to the marina we drove to a trail in the Tongass National Forest. We walked along the trail of old growth forest, Doug pointed out markers where the glacier ice used to reach up to. We ended up at the Mendenhall Glacier site. The trail was beautiful. The walk is longer and steeper in places than we expected from the tour de scription. Some people chose to stay in the bus for this part.
  6. We arrived at the marina and had time for a restroom break before boarding, as there is only a marine head on board. The ramp down to the boat is quite steep but there is a handrail. Once on the boat, Doug and Capt Andy gave the safety rules and we headed out. Doug helped us with camera settings. Any time there was a sighting he would open up the windows. We saw quite a few whale tails in the distance, and a calf that was lunge feeding along the shoreline.
  7. Hello from Juneau. We arrived a bit t early this morning so had time to eat breakfast in MDR before our tour. Today we did the Whales and Mendenhall glacier Photo Safari. We met our guide, Doug and headed out for about a 30 min drive to Auke Bay to meet our boat. Doug was a great guide and gave commentary throughout. Our group was 14 people, the maximum for this tour, and that was just right.
  8. Correction to my post about the Canaletto salad- it had candied walnuts, not almonds.
  9. Not sure about the free shuttle; we did meet a couple that said they took the bus there. Lindt chocolates were from the ship.
  10. Third Avenue West trio playing in Ocean Bar tonight; lovely to have nice soft music.
  11. DH had the daily special, rockfish. Our waitress wasn't sure where it was from when we asked, so she actually talked to the chef, he came to our table, and said it was fresh Alaskan rockfish! I had the braised short ribs, one of my favourites, along with a glass of Decoy cab. It was so good. I prefer these braised ribs to the CO daily special ones. DH likes soup, and is disappointed Canaletto removed it from the menu. No problem, the waitress brought him a bowl of soup from the Lido! We had the salad, which was a bit lackluster, lots of candied almonds but very short on gorgonzola. Then we had the burrata and it was excellent. The tomatoes even had flavour, which I didn't really expect this time of year. For dessert, I had affogato and lemon ricotta cheescake. DH had gelato.
  12. We had an absolutely terrific meal in Canaletto tonight. Great service and food.
  13. Spent an hour in Crow's Nest just after sailaway, for scenic commentary by a wildlife expert. We saw absolutely nothing!
  14. Had lunch at Dive-in/taco bar, when hostess Betty recognized us and came over to say hello. We last saw her on Rotterdam in Feb where she was hostess at Club Orange. R'dam was her first contract and she liked it; has since been home, and just came to Noordam 10 days ago. We quite like her. Told her about the MDR table they tried to give us last night when she wasn't at the podium. We won't have to worry anymore!
  15. That was the end of the tour. Time for the gift shop, which as nice. A good tour for only 2 hours, perfect for a short port day.
  16. Next was the carving hut where 2 carvers were working:
