  1. If you are super sensitive to smoke, how about you don't walk through a smoking area. And please don't say you have to. There is always a different way to get from one non-smoking part of the ship to another non-smoking part of the ship without walking through a smoking area and pretending to have an asthma attack.

Lol I don't (pretend to have an asthma attack) I may cough if walking by smokers. a reflex and can't be helped. I'm talking about casinos on land, not on the ship. When we go to dinner, we have to walk through the casino to get to the restaurant. You will never find me in the casino a ship. I will go around however I can to get where I need to go. I also like how carnival has the outdoor smoking sections so they're on one side of the ship...They should do that in Vegas.

  2. That's like saying if you're a girl in a skimpy outfit you shouldn't complain if guy's are leering at you.

And you've never seen a foreigner on a ship sailing out of the States, have you? Or a US person sailing out of a foreign country?

How about just being respectful to everyone.

First of all, if a girl wearing a skimpy bathing suit complains that guys are leering at her what would be done about it? Probably nothing. Same with smokers getting funny looks. If no one is saying or doing anything to you directly, there's really nothing anyone can do about it.

I can't even comment on the other countries thing because I still don't get what it has to do with this conversation.

  3. I think it is interesting that folks on here separate the different Lido stations like the deli, pizza, etc, from being part of "the buffet". To me they are all just different stations at the buffet with separate lines for each of them.

We eat dinner in the MDR and sometimes the sea day brunch but we eat breakfast and lunch usually on the Lido which to me is "the buffet"deck.

Hmm, that's interesting. I also don't consider the deli, pizza, etc. to be part of the buffet since they are separate and food is custom made for you. However, if going by what ShakyBeef said, would the carving station then not be considered part of the buffet?

Also, they have their own names, even Carnival doesn't consider them part of the buffet. Pizza Pirate, Guy's Burgers, Blue Iguana, etc.

  4. Learn from my mistake: don't try to apply logic, common sense, or even preschool level hygiene facts to this case. Some ignorance can't be cured. I'm reminded of a quote involving chess with a pigeon...

But at least it can be a lesson to everyone else that these people are out there, touching everything. Gee, I wonder how all that microscopic fecal matter gets "EVERYWHERE"? And there's no point in pointing out that viruses and bacteria and other pathogens are also microscopic.

Watch out for them, y'all. They walk among you and cruise with you.

Yep, not going to waste my time on it.

  5. Number one buffet hater here.

I don't like them because I stopped eating in a cafeteria in high school.

Noisy, crowded, people picking at things, cold food etc.

I have been to Half Moon Cay many times.

I HATE that buffet the most of all. Dirty, flies on the food, terrible food blech.

Since I don't go back to the ship for lunch I get the same thing every time. One nasty, but hot hamburger. The flies don't land on the hot grill.

I have tucked some snack type things in my little cooler bag and brought it with me to the beach.

I was at HMC in January, I don't think I have seen so many flies in my entire life! The fruit and salads were fly buffets.

I don't have the same aversion to buffets but I have to agree with you about the flies. When we were in HMC, I saw 2 of the biggest flies I ever saw making babies right there in front of us. :o

  6. Right, OK, I'm a "germ freak" for knowing that people should wash their hands after using the toilet. Yep, that makes perfect sense. I am aware of the facts. I have more knowledge and experience in health / hygiene / all aspects of pets and pet care / and medical experience than you would probably believe. I also have common sense.

But apparently I don't have enough sense to keep from trying to talk strangers on the internet out of their ignorance and their filthy habits. You either refuse to understand, or for some reason, are just incapable of understanding what most 4 yr-olds understand. You'll keep coming up with the most ridiculous, grasping inanities to justify your lack of hygiene, so you win: You keep being filthy and spreading filth, and I'll keep washing my hands, and not eating at the buffet because of people like you.

Lol, I'm just amazed that we're even talking about this. I never thought I'd have to try to convince an adult why they should always wash their hands after using the bathroom. It's one thing to let kids get exposed to germs (dirt, dogs licking faces, etc.), it's a whole other thing to say public sinks are full of germs, it's safer if I don't wash my hands. That kind of makes the OP the germaphobe doesn't it?

  7. Alrighty, I don't see how taking matters in their own hands equates to them needing a thicker skin. They were tired of their area getting smaller and smaller so they moved on.

I was referring to what you said about people being rude and coughing. If they're in a smoking section, they shouldn't be bothered by what people who walk through the section do. I know I often cough, make faces or hold my breath if I have to walk through a smoking section. I can't help it, I'm super sensitive to smoke. Even if no one is smoking at that moment, the lingering smell makes me cough.

  8. Last time I checked, there are 35 different countries in America, so it better matter. Of course we can always forget that the USA is part of, not only a bigger continent, but also a bigger world.

Sorry, meant to say the US. Being that the cruises I'm referring to are from US ports, I don't really think it matters how many people smoke in other countries when I'm referring to the US specifically.

  9. What a knee jerk reaction.

BTW, there are plenty of countries where smoking is still fully accepted and not looked down upon. Or is it that you just think everything should revolve around how things are done in the US?

I wasn't trying to be mean. Sorry if it came across that way. I'm only saying that if you are a smoker, and in a designated smoking area, you shouldn't be concerned about how non smokers look at you. If it makes you feel uncomfortable, maybe it's time to quit.

Also, what do other countries have to do with it? We're talking about cruises out of America, doesn't really matter how other countries feel about smoking...

  10. On my last cruise

    day 2: breakfast and lunch

    day 3: breakfast and lunch

    day 4: Seaday brunch.

Under the new setup it will be.

    Day 2: breakfast

    Day 3: breakfast

    Day 4: Seaday brunch.

So during "lunch hours" they've gone from 3 services to just 1 service. If they served the brunch everyday I would agree with you, but they don't do that.

I thought that lunch was not served on port days and that brunch is served on sea days when there is no separate breakfast / lunch. If that's not the case I apologize.

  11. I agree, but that is exactly what happened. Their favorite thing to do on cruises was to get up in the morning, watch the sunrise and enjoy their coffee and smoke on their balcony. If someone else was out there they would not smoke. They figured it was only a matter of time before people got them kicked off the ship entirely, and were tired of being made to feel bad. I have seen folks cough dramatically and my mom doesn't even have the cigarette lit. People were very rude. I wish they didn't smoke but at 65 they are set in their ways and like it and don't want to stop.

Well, your parents need to get a thicker skin. It's not just on cruise ships, there is disdain for smokers everywhere. Smoking used to be cool. Now we know better.

  12. Possibly so but my parents saw the bigger picture which is people got what they wanted and now they will want more which is they won't be happy until smoking is off the ship entirely, so they decided to make their own decision before that happens.

But still, that is what your parents did. You can't blame non smokers or carnival for that. I can't speak for other non smokers but I am happy with how it is now. I wouldn't expect a totally smoke free ship. I understand the casino is going to be very smoky and it doesn't bother me because I don't gamble. I live in Vegas and casinos here are smoky and I avoid them as well. I don't think ships will be completely smoke free in our lifetimes if ever. Maybe certain ships or sailings...

  13. Stopped smoking on balcony's.... really. They tell you you cannot smoke but they do. We could not use our suite balcony on our last trip in November. The guests in the cabin next to us smoked like a chimney. They may say it isn't done but they continue to allow this behavior. We have another cruise of the Valor in April and if this happens again I will really have a hard time booking them again. Celebrity smoking policy is adhered to by their guests and the Casino is smoke free (wonderful). We have not been on Princess as of yet but are booked this fall in Europe. We paid about $200 less per person than a suite on Carnival. I believe you book the cheapest inside cabin you will not find any other cruise line as inexpensive as Carnival but in almost any other class you will find comparable fares. Do the research and you will find them. Also Carnival fares ARE INCREASING. (example 8 day Southern Ocean Suite in 2014 $1034 PP, 7 day Eastern Ocean Suite in 2016 $1449 PP)

I didn't run into any balcony smokers on my last cruise, I'm sorry you did. I know there will be people who ignore the rules, there always are. Did you let guest services know and they didn't look into it?
