  1. Congratulations. Happyv, i know how they feel, my two are adopted and it is now 20 odd years later, couldn't love them any more than we do.

I remember the joy and tears of the first day or two as it is usually the end of a long and eventful road.

Congratulations to Sheila as well, i cant wait for the day one of mine says i am going to be a grandad.

  2. When we were on the Dream in September, there was a definite change in the drinks staff.

I struggled to get a drink in the MDR and had to ask one of the food waiters to send someone over to take an order, I couldn't get a refill either.

I promise it was nothing to do with any attitude from me either.

The same could be said for most areas I found.

  3. You understand it perfectly.

Any OBC on your account will be used for any charges (from daily "auto-tip" to specialty restaurants to alcoholic beverages to shore excursions to....) before you will start owing Princess money which will be charged to your credit card at the end of the cruise.

Thanks, i wasn't 100% sure when people talked about cashing them in.

  4. Will someone please explain the OBC to me in simple terms?

I have booked a cruise, when i arrive, i give my card details, when i am on board if i book a speciality restaurant, won't they take the payment from my obc before they debit my card?

Surely they use up your credit before they start taking card payments?

I dont understand how anyone has obc to cash out at the end of the cruise, unless they have thousands of $ of obc.

Be gentle with me when you answer, i am a brit and this is the first cruise i have been given obc.

  5. The Royal is scheduled to do one 12 night RT Southhampton to the Baltic in June.

Thats the one :) poster had me worried there.

Thanks for all your answers, they are really appreciated.

As for us Brits liking ballroom, not really sure on that one :)

One of the popular tv shows at the moment is strictly ballroom (dancing with the stars in the US i think)

I am more into Motown than american smooth

  6. thanks for all the answers so far, I really appreciate your time.

I have cruised a couple of times, but only with one of the British companies and never on a ship of this size.

I'm not so much looking for bargains (I will take them), I am more interested in how the larger companies like Princess operate, pitfalls that I should be looking for, what to avoid and what I absolutely must see.

What is the typical price of a day excursion with Princess?

I can't access any excursions yet, so have no idea what the cost might be.

  7. Hi All,

just booked my very first Princess Cruise on the Royal going to the Baltic in 2015.

I'm looking for tips and advice on how to get the very best value out of the cruise.

Any tips no matter how small would be appreciated.

Am I likely to be bombarded with upsell phone calls?

I am in the UK, so I'm not sure if things are different here.

Looking forward to see your replies.

  8. Good choice, then, Tony :)

Nell, i hope it's a good choice, i love the Thomson ships, so i am a bit sad to find such a difference in price and amenities.

Not sure how we will go on with the larger numbers of passengers, but we have found an itinerary that we both like and the ship looks really nice.

  9. We have decided to jump ship for our next cruise, just for research purposes ;)

We have booked a Princess cruise and had $485 dollars added to our account.

I actually priced a 2 week cruise with Thomson including drinks etc against the Princess cruise and we were £250 better off, plus the $485 dollars on board spend, brand new ship as well.

  10. Arrived back on Saturday after a week on the Dream - Mediterranean Medleyi.

I will write a review when I get a bit more time, but thought I would just post a few lines on here, I would be happy to reply if anyone has any questions.

Overall we had a terrific fortnight, we stayed for a week in Alcudia prior to sailing and the hotel was lovely.

This was my second time aboard Dream and to be honest I did notice subtle changes, nothing major, but I felt that they are cutting back in little areas.

I struggled to get a drink at times particularly in the main dining room, I felt the service was a bit slow in other areas as well, having said that, I didn't go without, so like I say nothing major.

The food was terrific all week, particularly in the Lido, normally I am a main dining room fan and only use the Lido now and then, but I thought the choice was really good and ate there 4 times out of the 7 nights.

Cabin size was excellent, Outside plus 5053, handy for the lift and access to the decks.

We were out on the trips most days, Cassis, Portofino, Pisa and Barcelona, all excellent places and really enjoyed our days.

I only saw 3 shows in the Broadway and all were good standard (just not my thing), the UK comedian was really good.

Entertainment in the Medusa was really good at times and I absolutely love Shep and Adam.

Overall we had a fantastic week on board and for anyone sailing soon, I'm jealous, nothing to worry about.

I will put a proper review together when I get the chance, in the meantime if anyone has a question please feel free.

  11. Hi I'm going on my first cruise this November

Please could you tell me if any off the bars on board the Thompson majesty have Sky or BT sports so I can watch football

most of the time the picture is only ok when in port, as soon as you set sail it becomes impossible to watch.

Unless your team has a mid week evening kick off, you should be able to catch the football in a local bar?

  12. If you join the Dream & Thomson FB group I believe there are downloaded bar menus on there but definitely the last time I looked at the Dream one, there is now a £1.20 supplement for Bombay Sapphire

Thanks Jules, doing my absolute best to resist FB wherever i can, i would sooner people not be able to see my business, unfortunately it's a fact of life these days and i do have an account.

Does anyone else hate it when they are “tagged“ in someone else's post and the world gets to know where you have been?

Probably my age i know

  13. Just 2 examples of cut backs:-

Bombay Sapphire had gone of the 'free' AI list when we were on Majesty in April - think it was a 1.20 supplement but don't hold me to that! Drambuie was also now at a supplement.

This is disastrous:D I can't cope without a pre dinner Sapphire and tonic.....and a few later....

Seriously, does anyone have an up to date bar menu please?

I am on Dream in Sept.

  14. They are "sort of" right, if you look at the deck plans the purple and teal coloured cabins are the plus ones, they are mainly midships but extend quite a way forward and aft.

There is a section of 14 plus cabins on each side that has a larger window, this is from when they extended the ship. Think they are around 6140/41 going forward.

    cheers Joe

  15. Always go Midships....

Joe, we are due on Dream in September, when I booked I asked for mid ship, the agent said that all of the outside plus cabins are situated there, so it wasn't necessary to pay extra and choose a cabin number.

Do you think this is correct? or should i be looking at booking a particular cabin?
