  1. Is it possible that Venezuela offers a steep discount on ship fuel these days.?

The Prinsendam is scheduled to visit Isla De Margarita on Mar 20, 2019. This appears to be the only cruise visiting there in 2019. HAL informed passengers that Americans will not need to obtain a visa.

  2. According to Travel Pulse, Swan's Discovery seems to have found a new home:

Is Mexico Getting a New Cruise Line?

Latin America luxury resort developer Grupo Vidanta will be adding a cruise line to its portfolio. According to a report in Cruise Industry News, Group Vidanta, based in Mexico, has acquired the Voyager cruise ship from All Leisure Group, which was the owner of Swan Hellenic and Voyages of Discovery.

  3. If it didn't exist then how did you post to it here?? [emoji3][emoji3]

Well, "here" is not the same as the other address you have given below, and neither that one nor this one seems to be registered as the official Roll Call.

I got "here" by putting the word "Prinsendam" into the thread search box. Hundreds of threads appeared on the search list, so I looked for other words in the titles and your title brought me here.

Try using the FIND YOUR ROLL CALL feature on the right side of the page. When the ship's name and date are entered, the Roll Call should appear, but it's not there yet.

  4. First, I wish to extend my sympathy and support to the British people as you recover from yesterday’s dreadful jihadist assault aimed at your Parliament.

I am happy to learn that most reimbursement claims have now been resolved, with funding supplied primarily through ATOL and secondarily through travel insurance and credit card rebates.

Very little information has been posted regarding non-British bookings. Discover the World was ALG’s marketer/distributor for most of their overseas markets.

Uninsured Australians initially seemed to believe that they would lose all of their prepayments. No further information has been posted here.

It appears that Discover’s Arizona office has gradually been reimbursing prepayments made by Americans and Canadians. Mine were rebated into my credit card account.

Since I purchased flight insurance, my flight was cancelled and rebated by the airline. I prepaid land transportation and hotel rooms (before and after the cruise) on a “guaranteed” basis. Although my annual travel insurance policy did not have Trip Cancellation coverage, it did have $5K Trip Interruption coverage. The insurance company has refused to cover my “guaranteed” arrangements, because the trip was not “interrupted”. Hence, it was interesting to learn that Trip Disruption insurance in Britain provides broader coverage than Trip Interruption insurance in the USA!

  5. Have any of ALG’s non-British customers been contacted yet by DISCOVER THE WORLD?

They represented Voyages of Discovery and Swan Hellenic in the following markets: Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, Sweden, and USA. They recently deleted ALG’s brands from the client list on their website. The website is discovertheworld .com.

  6. There is that Exploritas organization or whatever they are calling it today - used to be called Elderhostal in the US - RoadsScholars maybe today -- .(!)

Yes, these days they are called ROAD SCHOLARS. They cruised on VOD for several years for their annual World Academy voyage (Jan. thru Mar.) .

This year and next year their World Academies are booked on HAL Amsterdam's World Voyages.

With regard to lecturers, does anyone know whether All Leisure Group's cadre of top-notch lecturers will be transferring to another similar cruise company? That has been a valuable asset, and it might be sustained elsewhere.

  7. OD

Just curious why more are not considering Voyages to Antiquity as an alternative? Their ship, Aegean Odyssey, has the same small ship size and high quality enrichment lecturers as Swan. Is it because her destinations tend to be mainly European/Mediterranean? (Although she has done several winters in Asia....)

I agree with your suggestion. Last winter I took a lengthy, highly enjoyable cruise with VTA, crossing the Indian Ocean from Cape Town to Singapore. Prices were all inclusive, and fell in the same range as VOD and Swan. While the atmosphere was less formal, wine was served with every dinner.

Today there is an interesting news article about VTA's strong market position:

  8. Being unfamiliar with Pullmantur, US prices seem VERY LOW!

Since my Minerva cruise has just been cancelled, I noticed that their Horizon ships offers several short cruises of the Canary Islands, with prices ranging from $21 to $58 per day.

My source is the Vacations to Go website.

  9. "You were due on board until the 25th February - did they tell you the whole lot had been pulled?"

The USA staff member didn't provide very specific information. She stated that the Jan 3 to Jan 30 grand voyage was cancelled, but she did not know the status of the Jan 30 Feb 25 grand voyage.

Since I wish to escape winter, I said that I preferred to look for some alternative travel options, and she assured me of full reimbursement.

  10. I booked back-to-back Grand voyages on Swan Hellenic's Minerva, from Jan 3 to Feb 25. I planned to spend 3 nights in Marseille before the cruise. Yesterday, the Scottsdale office phoned, informing me of the cancellation. Their call came one half hour before I was supposed to depart on the airport shuttle. They wouldn't say what happened to the ship, but they assured me I would be reimbursed promptly.

Having read postings above, I am now wondering whether the sister companies are having financial difficulties .

  11. Si

Was there a max of 90 day trip?]

Although I have been on several Grand Voyages and segments of World Voyages, I rarely go on trips lasting more than 70 days. My current GeoBlue annual policy covers up to 70 days per trip; so it would not cover the final weeks of an entire World Voyage.

Squaremouth.com does ask for the length of ones longest trip within the year. Currently, the longest single trip available through them is 180 days. However, that Travelex policy does have very limited medical and evacuation coverage.
