  1. Good news. How was the car tour?

Very good, we planned for 2 hrs but ended up out for 3.5. We got out of downtown over to Miromar where the hotels and casinos used to be, down 5th Ave where the large houses are, and visited Fusterlandia. It was amazing there, it’s like being at Parc Guell in Barcelona you have to get out there. The artist Jose Fuster has been creating visual art at his home and the surrounding neighborhood for years. There’s some great artists there selling their creations.

We ended with cold drinks and tapas at Marea Restaurant. It’s a home on what I would call Biscayne Bay (being from Miami) with amazing views, food, and service. They have a Facebook page and is on trip advisor, you can check it out before you go. It was a great way to end our day before driving back to Havana and the ship!

  2. Just back today, money exchange was easy peasy, I had Euros to convert to CUC. There’s a flat screen monitor showing conversion rates for many currencies including USD.

We got a car on our own 50 CUC an hour but friends negotiated 40. You walk right out from terminal and cars driving by you can easily find one.

The Sky was great much better than when I was in a few years ago. Food in MDR was fantastic better than Adagio’s last night. If they have lamb shank in MDR you have to get it it was phenomenal!!

  3. I know right?? There are times when people complain about being nickeled and dimed on cruises, but do the math - that $3651 in today’s dollars is probably closer to $5000! In comparison prices today are less and I’m ok with paying extra for specialty restaurants and the like if I want to have more of an experience.

  4. Just gratuity on alcohol.

I plan to be a 1st time Oceania cruiser too in the near future (so many choices, not yet booked). Regarding the gratuity on alcohol, is that applied to your onboard account based on the cost of each drink?

  5. I found a great agent - a female small business owner who I’m happy to support vs a big box company. She’s always available when needed, who proactively monitors my booking and processes price reductions which I only know about after she notifies me of the change. For me the perks and benefits provided when I book through her agency make it a no brained for me. “Shop Small” whenever you can.

  6. I couldn’t agree with you more Phil, I’m sitting here now in 8070 (got as an upgrade) and it’s noisy at times and being at the back it’s a rough ride. We’re definitely changing the room for our next cruise to mid-ship as soon as we get home.

  7. We’re now on Viking Forseti on Bordeaux cruise, today we’re in Blaye. Had previously only cruised AMA in April on the Tulip Time. We loved it and were a bit jaded about Viking coming onto this cruise. We won it and were only able to make a reservation 120 days within sailing so ended up with deck 1 porthole instead of french balcony. Since it’s free we really wanted to try Viking. Must say there are only subtle differences with AMA. We’re still partial to AMA however if it came down to a significant price difference we’d definitely go on Viking again.

  8. Hello,

Thank you for uploading the daily schedule of the cruise. Is it true there are other excursions besides the ones that are included in cruse for an additional cost. If so what were they and how much were they?

    Thank you,

    Kim

There were tours with limited space that we signed up for online during registration. There was no additional charge for them. They weren't "sold" out and people were able to sign up for the remaining spots onboard.

  9. Deval, you mentioned you did the bike tour but can you give me a bit more pertinent info. Ie how long do you ride for without a break, are bike trips vigorous or gentle with many stops, that's the info I am specifically looking for. Thank you for all the other info in your review and the dailies, they were great.

We did the bike tour in Rotterdam. We took the bridge over the river to the other side, but stopped 1/2 way on the bridge to rest. There were lots of stops along the way, it was not a lengthy ride as others may have had going between towns. We crossed the river over another bridge and rode around downtown. It was not strenuous at all. We wished we would've known we could keep the bikes and ride around on our own at the end of the tour. Be sure to ask about that if you're interested.

  10. Some good recommendations already provided, so I'll just share my rule of thumb. Apply sunscreen in the room in front of a mirror so you get lotion in all the exposed nooks & crannies, at least 20-30 mins before going in the sun. I live in FL and can't tell you how many times I see people spray on at the beach then go right into the water. Then a few hours later they look like lobsters! It's a shame when I see this happen to young kids.
