  1. Even if you were to get "compensation", you should immediately turn around and donate it to recovering the islands you wanted to go to so much.

I don't think enough people realize how devastated these islands are. This wasn't a normal hurricane. It will take years for some of them to recover. But hey, as long as you get a few hundred dollars in obc who cares.

Amen, Think of the people on the islands you love. It will be a long time before they see tourists... the tourists they depend on for their livelihood. Be thankful you can cruise to anywhere!

  2. For those sailing NCL this is the update:

We are working with our partners to assess impacts to the ports we visit in the Eastern Caribbean. Currently, we have changed all of our Eastern Caribbean itineraries to Western‎ Caribbean cruises for the next two months. As it's still early, we will continue to keep in close contact with our partners on the ground and have the flexibility to alter future itineraries to ensure a great guest experience, if needed.

  3. This is an update that was in a travel industry magazine on when some of the major resorts in St Maarten may open again:

    St. Martin

About 1,600 tourists have been evacuated and efforts are being made to move an additional 1,200, according to the Associated Press. The Princess Juliana International Airport has been receiving flights that are bringing in relief supplies, and evacuating guests.

Since Hurricane Irma made direct landfall over St. Martin, many of its resorts were left with significant damage, including The Beach Plaza, Hotel Mercure, the Oyster Bay Beach Resort, Westin Dawn Beach, and Hotel Riu Palace St. Martin.

Divi Little Bay Beach Resort, an all-inclusive located on a private peninsula between two bays in St. Maarten (Dutch territory), said via social media “at this time, the Resort will remain closed until we are able to fully assess the damage."

Sonesta’s three resorts – Sonesta Maho Beach Resort Casino & Spa, Sonesta Ocean Point Resort and Sonesta Great Bay Beach Resort & Casino – suffered extensive damage. All reservations through the end of they year are cancelled.

  4. There are many threads and suggestions on the Florida board, but we have used Cortrans and they were fantastic. $20.00 per person.

I can second this recommendation.... they are great. We stayed at one of the hotels on their pickup list. They were on time, courteous and very inexpensive. The trip back to MCO was just as good.

  5. I would go with an independent, small boat operator. I've done both the large boat through the cruise line and the small boats through Harv and Marv. If you are hoping to get pictures, the crowds on the large boats may preclude you from doing so unless you happen to be in the right spot. In my opinion, they put too many people on the large boats for a good experience.

With not more than 6 people on Harv and Marv's small but fully accessible boats, you have a lot better chance of getting good pictures, including the coveted but harder to photograph full breach.

I second Harv and Marv we had a wonderful experience 5 people on our boat

  6. Since they were booked under different agents.. those agents "own" those reservations. I am a TA and I have had to work with the agent to give permission to link the reservations.... Royal cannot link them unless both agents call and say it is ok one to give permission one to accept the permission. It is crazy. I have 16 cabins on my reservation and for the life of me I cannot get the other 2 booked with another agent linked without 4-5 phone calls... keep trying
