Of the hotels offering day passes available through the vendor cited above by @PORT ROYAL I've stayed at the Royal Sonesta (under a different hotel brand name), the Fairmont El San Juan, and the Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort and they are all on excellent stretches of beach. The Royal Sonesta and El San Juan are located adjacent to each other and the Courtyard is about a half mile further and across the street from the airport.

Are all the properties you mentioned above easily reaching to and from the cruise ship by taxi?  How long of a ride?

  2. I am perfectly happy spending some port days on the ship. even when I travelled with my late husband, we often didn’t get off the ship. Most of our cruises were to the Caribbean in the dead of winter so we were just happy to be someplace warm.  After the first five eastern and western Caribbean and Panama Canal, there’s not really a lot that we want to see a second time in a lot of those ports.

I’m definitely an introvert, and I totally get the social anxiety, meds have helped me a lot with that.  I have any time dining and I’m pretty sure I can get seated at a table with others and I think that will be enough socialization for me.  But I will definitely go to the solo meet up and see if I meet any friendly folks that might want to meet up for dinner.

I have created a rollcall on a different site. I’m thinking I might find a few people there to meet up for a meal or a drink.  I’m just looking forward to spending 10 nights and being pampered.

Check out my avatar above that’s my room service breakfast on my balcony of a princess cruise long ago. That is one of my favorite things.

  3. Thanks for the patters, I will open them up when I’m on my laptop but  just a quick question … Do they still do the pub lunch in the wheelhouse on one sea day?  That was always a favorite.    I really do like trivia and that’s a good suggestion, it would be a good place to join a table of others.   I know this is probably an unpopular opinion, but I wish this cruise had more sea days. I believe we only have two along with eight port days.  I love hanging out and pampering myself on the ship.

On my last cruise on the Ruby last April, I found in looking at my old newsletters that there was a single and solo cruiser meetup on the first night at 8 in the Wheelhouse Bar.  There were other gatherings on that cruise most days, at different times and locations.  They were all publicized in the newsletter.  I didn't go to any of them and haven't been to any solo gatherings on any cruise.  I generally haven't heard good reviews of them, but YMMV.

    Good luck and have fun!

Thanks for the info. I might want to check out the first one and see what happens or I might not but I know I’ll have a wonderful trip anyway.

  5. I'm a huge Princess fan, Elite now.  But I've never sailed solo.  My late husband and I did all the cruising.  I've just booked a September Boston-Quebec City on the Emerald and it will be my first solo.   I'm okay alone, I'm a bit of an introvert anyway, but I really wouldn't mind meeting a few solos who would like to join me for a meal or some drinks/music occasionally.

Is there typically a solo meet up the first night? Where would I find out the time and location?

I'm in a rollcall here and also on another site but so far it's not very active and it's all couples.  Hoping that between now and September I meet some solos, but I'm interested in how Princess publicizes these meetups.   I feel like years and years ago I've seen a sign on an easel somewhere in the atrium announcing this but it wasn't really of interest to me at the time.

  6. I'm staying the night before my March cruise at a downtown hotel and would assume I could get a taxi to the port.  True? I'm wondering if, upon return, there will be a taxi line at the port to take me to the airport.  There has been one for every other port I've visited.   Or do I have to make an appointment for a taxi?  I don't know how I'd know in advance what time I can get off the ship.

    Thanks

  7. As a perk on my next cruise I was given one night of complimentary (complementary?) specialty dining valued at $29/pp.   Can I make the reservation in advance?  When I go to the personalizer to make the reservation they will charge me.  Is this something I can go ahead and make the reservation on line, pay for it, and will be reimbursed thru a credit on my shipboard account?

Or do I have to wait until I get on the ship to make the reservation?

    Thanks

    Joyce

  8. Is there any advantage to buying a bottle or two of wine or spirits on the personalizer?  I mean is it any cheaper than if I just wait to buy it onboard?  I do understand the water package is cheaper to buy in advance.  And it seems there are some buy 4, get 5 beers, but I don't know if that deal exists onboard either?

    Thanks!

  9. This is really good news, I was just debating on if I'd need to purchase a wifi package, but if I can check mail briefly at each port, that's enough for me.  I'm on vacation after all!  I have the Princess 250 free Elite minutes as well, so that's more than I could need for a 7 day cruise.

JasmineB, I wasn’t addressing you.  I was addressing KarzyKat24’s original post and giving her my suggestions.  She is not an Elite cruiser and does not get the benefits you get.

Yes, thanks, I saw that, I was just following up on that one part of your response to get more info that would help me figure out the best plan for me.  Thank you.  I'm always nervous about making a flight but unfortunately that's the last flight I can take that isn't a red eye, I think.  I arrive home at midnight as it is.

  11. Wow, Tom, that's some new info for me, thank you.  I'm flying to Pittsburgh on American, so not intl and not a small airline.  But even if I do use this Port Valet, that just takes care of the baggage, right?  I can still take an early taxi (rather than the Princess transfer)?  Is that correct?   Thanks for sharing your experience.

Consider taking the Princess ship to airport shuttle service.  For one thing they handle your luggage all the way to the airport.

I "think" as Princess Elite, I can be first off the ship if I choose.  And while it's been a few years since I've cruised, last time I did, if I kept and carried my own luggage, I could walk off the ship without having to find my luggage in the warehouse.  I'd think I could catch a taxi more quickly than waiting for the Princess shuttle to fill.  Do you think these assumptions are correct?  My flight is 12:05 on a Sunday morning in June.
