  1. SHIP: Celebrity Solstice

    CABIN #: 7136

    DECK #: 7

    CLASS: 2B

    AREA: Forward

    BED NEAR: Bath

QUIET?: Ship generated noise was minimal, human noise was more noticeable - see comment in problems section

BALCONY VIEW: Good with no obstructions

BALCONY SIZE: Normal with 2 chairs and table

    WIND A PROBLEM?:No

    SOOT A PROBLEM?:No

PROBLEMS/COMMENTS: We chose this stateroom as it had rooms below and above it. One thing we never considered, was the configuration of the room above us. As it was a family stateroom, there were a number of children in this room and we were constantly listening to running feet, jumping and banging and all manner of noises, sometimes quite late. A quiet room, is dependent on your neighbours, not only surrounding you, but above and below you also.

  2. Hi, can anyone who has sailed Celebrity down under, (Australia and NZ), recently, please tell me weather Celebrity has its own Health form or do they use the CLIA Questionnaire, (Cruise Lines International Association). I notice on this form you have to declare if you have had vomiting or diarrhea in the past 2 days whereas I have read that other forms ask if you have had it in the past 7 days. Many thanks.

  3. After logging onto Celebrity website I see we were now owing an extra NZ$116.00, ($58 each), and this is after we have made final payment. I believe Celebrity are entitled to add this on, but is this a common occurrence? And is it usually this much? When you make final payment, you hope that there won't be any further expenses but I guess this is the risk you take. The strange thing is, they never emailed us to say that we were owing this amount. If we hadn't checked the webpage and don't pay, what course of action could they take? Would it be added to our sea account or would we have be expected to pay it before boarding the ship?

Have any others had this experience and if so, how much have you had to pay in extra taxes? We will be on a 14 day cruise and docking at 7 ports and tendering to 2. If you calculate $58 x 2500 passengers, $145,000 is quite a big amount for extra taxes or port charges. Thanks for your help

  4. I have been dealing directly with Celebrity through the phone and made final payment through internet banking. The funny thing is, I only found this increase by chance when I went into our reservation to check on the itinerary times. They hadn't even notified me of the increase by email or phone and they certainly have our contact details. If I don't pay, I guess they will add it to our on board account. I will ring them on Monday and see if I can get any answers.

  5. We only have 7 ports where we are docked and there are 2 places where we are tendered in. If they take an extra NZ$145,000 for the increase, that's an average of over $20,000 per docked port. As I said, we are relatively new to cruising and have no idea on what is normal, low or over the top. Thanks for all your information. Do these increases happen often?

  6. We are 28 days out from cruise on Celebrity Solstice and have just logged in to check reservation. Surprised to see we now owe an extra $116 for the 2 of us, for taxes. I guess they can do this as it is in the fine print but rather annoying all the same. When you consider the cruise is virtually sold out, and that is $58 per person, and there are over 2500 on board, that is at least $145,000 in extra revenue. Also, our dollar is quite strong against the Aussie and US dollar at the moment. Anyone any ideas on how this all works?

  7. We have just returned from a 14 day cruise on the Diamond Princess and would do another cruise on this ship in a heartbeat. The three of us just loved it. The staff were wonderful and couldn't do enough for us, the food was very nice and we didn't notice any obvious evidence of real wear and tear. We were impressed by the staff and how they were always working on the upkeep of the ship in some way. We were wonderfully surprised at how great this experience was and have no hesitation in recommending a cruise on this ship. Enjoy your cruise.
