Unfortunately that won’t work. In order to get money back Royal has to cancel the cruise. So far they have only been cancelling 30-45 days ahead of departure which is long after final payment.
If you cancel a NRD before final payment all you get is a FCC.
Which is not going to be worth much

I booked with a non refundable deposit, so no chance of me getting it back if I cancel and as I mentioned, my final payment isn't due until mid August so my best bet is to ride it out - right now I have nothing to lose by doing that.
Yes just dont pay any more ride it out ...if they cancel you will get something back

Hi Folks
Will we see Australian Flagged Cruise ships , I feel a number of countries have picked up on the FOC issues and will for example insist that closed loop cruises from their territories are carried on ships registered in their countries for various reasons including health control issues

It was just on the radio, Sydney’s third cruise terminal at Yarra bay planning process will be delayed for 18 months.
Strange the planning minister said the other day projects like that will be fast tracked .
Sounds like they dont expect too many ship to come back very soon

While I think you are right about it not starting up again soon, (like any time this year), speculation doesn't help those of us who already have cruises booked for later in 2020 and at some point will have to decide if we want to lose our deposits or take a gamble and make final payments. I'm glad I have until August to decide, but there are many out there right now with final payments due for late summer/early fall cruises and they are not being treated fairly by Royal. Yes, the cruise might be canceled and they will be eligible for a full credit, but that is a risk some don't want to take - especially if a large sum of money is involved. Royal should really step up to the plate and let anyone over 70 know if for some reason cruising starts back up and they still require the doctor's release that a full credit will be given - not this lame BS that the booking can be transferred over to someone else - how generous!
Yes , you must consider if Royal will survive this ...I wrote to the CEO and asked the question re the 70 y/o doctors note ...no reply as yet .. dont hold your breath .... if you put more money in now I suggest its quite a chance that you wont see it again
Ask for a refund ...
is not the US advise that no person over 70 should cruise??

Having sailed round the south island I would certainly say a prayer , god help the ship that gets in trouble in those seas .. will we help them ??
Will the RNLI in UK send out a lifeboat when there is a cry for help??

pre bankruptcy sale buy now before its too late

Cruising is closed ......its going to be a very long time before you have to worry about a doctors note ...
Many cruise lines may not survive and cruising as we know it will change

For Cunard a transatlantic service using all three ships might happen but ships would need to be British flagged meaning no cheap labour crew from third world countries , so prices will not be cheap
And there will be health checks at both ends the USA might start to insist that cruise ships making closed loops from the USA be confined to USA registered ships .... imagine that

Hi
Cruising is closed ..at least in the foreseeable future there are just too many forces arrayed against a restart of operations in the near future .. no cruising as we knew it is finished there will be many changes needed

So we send in a "Gunboat" to remove her ....that ship is in distress and the law of the sea demands we assist her
She is in distress needs fuel / provisions at very least / people on her are in distress .. we have obligations to help

Hi
Yes no inside cabins and all ships restricting the number of passengers to about 2/3 of the number before virus
that would be a big start
And no over 70's with health issues

They will price high and then lower them until the ship is full.
Hi
Many ordinary people will be very reluctant to cruise they will recall floating petri dishes and will not book
The cruise lines have their work cut out to survive this impost on their incomes
Perhaps the first thing will be to abolish inside cabins ......

The only way to get any redress will be using Lloyds open form ... cast the ship adrift with no fuel ..and then salvage her using Lloyds open form no cure no pay....you then own the ship .....
-
Each ship will be a law to itself and Flag State law will be paramount in any litigation so be prepared for a trip to a remote courthouse in that Flag state

The corporate structure of Carnival came under discussion in the context of suing the company. Carnival Australia is a Business Name. Under Australian law, a Business Name is not a 'legal entity', in that it cannot be sued directly. It is the owners of the Business Name who are sued.
Hi
But who owns the ship and who manages the ship ...

Hi Folks
Sorry but I think cruising as we knew it is a thing of the past .. it will be years before it recovers of at all

Most likely the case, which is why I want a refund.
Hi
But will you get a refund ??? or will a crack appear and the grand edifice that was cruising will start to crumble
Same applies to the airlines it will only take one major to fail and the rest will be in dire peril
I have not yet had my funds back from Cunard...

We plan on staying in. I might escape to America for a while if I read my current book, Blood and Bone, which is ironically is Nora Roberts' book two of the Year one Series, which is about a post apocalyptic world due to a virus that kills most of the world's population.
Hi
My "Reading" is a number of audio books on youtube of the James Heriot (All creatures great and small) books

End all FOC ships
End all trade with china and ensure essential items are made here
We dont need any new cars for 10 years the ones we have now are fine
stop buying cheap / fake goods from china
we dont sell our gas or foodstuffs for next to nothing , metals included
get the idea the restrictions last for 10 years after that we are self sufficient and can then look at a small amount of imported goods
if we dont do this well just learn mandarin .....
