Thanks. It will be our first time to that part of the world. We head there on Saturday, having spent five weeks in Hawaii ... mostly Kauai. We are very much looking forward to this adventure.

Coincidently we have just booked for Dec.22nd ex Sydney for 23 days. There were only two SS cabins available. We selected 6056 and 6059 is still available. Looks like we chose well. 😂😂😂
Looks like you dodged a bullet!

I have tried to check on cabin 6059 a number of times recently. First time the room stewards were there wearing hooded Tyvek coveralls and face masks. The second time the security guy outside the door would not let me knock. Other times that whole stretch of corridor is closed. Both times I phoned the room the person who answered was coughing so hard I could barely understand him, think he said everything was okay, so don't worry about a thing, Bruinboy.
Mr. Whogo, thanks for the update. I’m glad things have calmed down on deck 6. My guess is by coincidence that was Mrs. Loud and Long’s cabin and they had to install extra insulation so the people on either side of her could sleep without hearing every detail of her life ... especially the five grandchildren. I’m sorry you are disembarking when we embark. It would have been fun to share an adult beverage or two. Enjoy the rest of your cruise. You are now on the portion we will be experiencing.

Mr. Whogo. Please tell Mrs. Loud and Long is disembarking in Auckland on Nov 8th. Any recon you can do in this regard will be appreciated. Of course, all you need to do is listen as she will probably announce it to the entire room shortly.

You are back. Apparently, the people who put together your Apia excursion in Samoa also were in charge of updating these forums in a timely manner. Keep the posts coming. I enjoy hearing your updates. Remember to look for me on November 8th. I’ll be the guy boarding as you are disembarking. I appreciate your keeping an eye on the folk in 6059 for me. Let me know if we need to bring extra disinfectant with us.

Mr. Whogo ... three things. One, did you see that new Dr Who for the first time in history of the television show is female? Any relation? Two, we get on the ship for 29 days when you get off in Auckland. So, would you mind going up to cabin 6059 and asking the folk there to leave the cabin in good shape. If they look a little shady, would you mind reporting them to guest relations? Three, we are currently on Kauai. Went to McDonalds to get a spam egg McMuffin. Not on the posted menu, but you can get it as a special order which we did. It was surprisingly good.
Have a great cruise. I love your writing style. Very enjoyable read.

Comes across as a little elitist to me. Let the people in coach eat cake.

Nice beginning. Thanks for inviting us along. DW and I did a South America cruise a couple of years ago from Buenos Aires to Santiago. It was a wonderful experience. Enjoy your trip. And your wife sounds like a saint.

I’m as prudish as they come, but hey, they are only boobs. I know the area to avoid if I so choose. Clothing optional in ONLY one area of the ship. Just one.

The bus driver was Mr and Mrs Grumpy’s cousin. I thought you knew that. Still here. Still enjoying.

Miss G. Wow, all sorts of changes as things get down to the wire. Thankfully, more fun one’s than the one not so fun one. I guess the captain and crew took the “party” ship too literally and took out the pier. Oh well. You will have a great time. Thanks for taking us along.

HB, thanks for taking me along on your cruise. I am a LONG way from water here in Nebraska. Loved the nails and the adult beverage at LAX. Off to a great start.

You can build relationships and friendships without roll calls?? Well I can.
Annie
It’s not one or the other. It’s both/and. We can do both on a roll call not one or the other. And believe it or not I can build relationships and friendships without roll calls as well. It’s just fun for me to start the process of meeting people on a roll call and getting to know something about them in addition to ... not in place of ... arranging excursions which are not part of the cruise line’s offerings.
I’m glad you like the more impersonal aspect of roll calls. I appreciate both, that’s all.

If the 'old days' was discussing families - I am glad that era is over.
Annie
Yep, let’s keep it as impersonal as possible. That’s always the best way to go. Building relationships and friendships is soooo yesterday.

I miss the “old days” when it came to roll calls. More getting to know one another and less setting up private excursions. I liked sharing about families and what we are looking forward to to on the cruise and not “I’m setting up this tour. Anyone interested in joining.” My roll call for our November cruise on the Noordam has unfortunately been mostly about private shore excursions and hardly anything about getting to know one another. Also, a good week is two or three posts. It’s crickets over there.

Terrific, non-traditional start to Alaska Trip Live. BTW ... keep the sarcasm flowing.

Well, said OP!!!! I would be bummed if the itinerary started changing. That said, if you go, I hope you enjoy the changes.

Whatever any more negative people say, they DID make it right. Yes, the OP had to do certain thinks, BUT that does not alter that fact that they made it right. Kudos to OP and Hal and thumbs down to those who put a negative spin on most everything!

Whew!!! Will be going later this year and not 2019. I do remember reading an article lately about New Zealand folk lamenting how tourism is greatly impacting certain locations, especially those associated with the Lord of the Rings movies.

OlsSalt beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We have been in a number of world class cities in South America and Europe and we love NYC, and that’s coming from a Midwesterner who lives in medium-sized highly polite and non-pushy city. BTW, ozcruiser we will be in your neck of the woods for the very first this coming November. We’ll rate Auckland, Melbourne and Sydney while there :)

Question ... much is made of MDR lunch ... to make that lunch one has to board earlier rather than an assigned time after the MDR closes. Is that correct? Publicizing lunch in the MDR encourages earlier boarding regardless of assigned time.
