  1. I carry everything in cases. I've never been even asked about them on a plane or cruise. I take 13 different kinds of pills, 30 pills a day so carrying the bottles would mean another suitcase. I keep my list with the meds (Excel spreadsheet) and tag the package and my CPAP with "Medical Equipment". That way, the CPAP doesn't get counted as my carryon.

  2. Tough to say without knowing you all. Aft balcony would be nice but, maybe a little (ahem) too quiet for a 20 something. Nice if you guys want to sit and chat though. Usually fit 4 but one is a pull down bed.

Maybe something midship for a nice balance between 20 something fun vs grandparent style. Easy to get everywhere and back after.

I was just looking at Haven rooms which would be luxury.

Again, we don't know the personalities involved, so...

  3. Yay, you are on the last home port NYC cruise for Breakaway! I get on as you get off for the repositioning to New Orleans cruise!

So it's all easy and here's how it goes: You follow the signs to the cruise terminal and up the ramp for parking. After paying, (at pier 90 or 88) and proceeding along to pier 88 show your parking receipt and stop for dog sniffing. Park and roll your luggage back to the elevator near the dog. (You are on floor 3 by the way.) Strongly suggest you be able to move all your luggage by yourself as porters are hard to find - but if you have to watch for one who is escorting people to their cars and ask for help. It may take a while.

Take the elevator down to floor 1 and there are porters there. They are checking your tags, or writing new ones for you, and taking your luggage immediately into cages and carts that will all be forklifted aboard. No worries! Tip the nice man.

Take the elevator up to floor 2 and you are on the boarding floor. Go through security (did you leave your water in the car?) and check in, and wait for boarding or proceed aboard if they tell you to.

When you return: two days before arrival look for the departure schedule and tags. Choose if you want to get off self-assist with your luggage and an early time, or to put your luggage out the night before and choose one of those times and tags.

When your color is called, you get off and are directed inside and down an escalator to the arrivals hall. If you sent your luggage ahead, look for it here. Here is where you pick up a porter if you want help. With your luggage, proceed down the line to go through customs/immigration with your customs form and passport. Your porter will stick with you through here and beyond.

After that you walk a ways to the elevator area, get on, and head to floor 3 to get back to your car. Porter in tow if you have one. Tip the nice man!

The great thing is that if you choose self-assist, you could be in your car and driving home before 9am!

Take good care of the Breakway for us and wave as we pass you to board!

I thought there was another on the 27th.

  4. You probably can't see the fireworks from the ferry.

The ferry carries thousands there is no fare and no reservations. Therell be plenty of room, Just don't try to make it last second, you'll miss it. Get there early.

And don't forget, get off the boat, go through the terminal, the board again. Don't dally or you'll wait at least half an hour for the next boat and there's nothing to do at midnight in the St George terminal except watch the antics of the bums.

    (Former ferry commuter)

  5. Not just any card. MSC room cards have wiring in them. By the way don't try to punch lanyard hole I cut the wire and needed a new card.

Sorry, MSC must be different from NCL. I have done it on NCL.

Mostly because I'm forgetful so unless I put the card back in my pocket, I leave my key in the slot when I go out.

Seems pretty expensive to install 2 card readers for every room instead of one card reader and a mechanical switch. It must save them a lot on electricity that offsets the cost.

  6. They mean that, whilst the Epic and Breakaway both have the Manhattan Room at the aft, the Breakaway also has both Taste and Savor, whereas the Epic just has Taste.

I don’t see that it makes much difference though. Taste and Savor are very similar and there are only really two of them as they are split by the. Central walkway.

Sorry just saw this. Yes Taste, Savor, and Manhattan room on Breakaway, only Manhattan and only one (Taste or Savor , can't remember which) on Epic. Bottom line, Epic is OK. But just for us, Breakaway, Gem had a better feel or vibe. Nothing bad enough not to go on again, but if presented with equal choices we'd chose the other. If Epic was a great deal or we were in Florida at the right time, Epic would be better.

I think Epic is the worst of the NCL mega ships.

We’ve been on Getaway and Escape and feel they fixed the things we didn’t like about Epic on those.

Plus, some people are really weird about the bathroom. I didn’t really mind it other than the strange motion censor light in the toilet area of ours.

I wouldn’t personally sail Epic again, but it wasn’t an awful vacation. Just make all your dinner and show reservations as soon as you can and the lines won’t impact you as much.

I’ve never been on Royal, but I do prefer ncl jewel and away class ships to the Epic.

  7. We sailed on Epic this past November and last year on Breakaway. I prefer Breakaway or Gem. It's tough to say there's any one big bad part of epic, just a few annoyances. The bathroom was nbd, but our steward always seems to have just woken up. The ship was crowded but several of the bars didn't open until late on the day. Breakaway has taste and savor, epic only one. The crew at the meet and greet on Breakaway were engaging, the epic just stood around uncomfortably. The gym was pretty good on epic, Breakaway was crowded. The outside of Breakaway has dining and bars, epic only on the top.

I can't put my finger on it exactly, but we probably wouldn't do epic again unless there was a reason. We're looking at

    Gem next.

  8. We were on Epic in 10323 last year the week after Thanksgiving. Aft balconies are incredible. This was the second time we had an aft, the other on Breakaway in 2016.

Try not to go too high in the ship, as I heard there's noise from the pool deck... We didn't hear anything.

We weren't crazy about Epic. Just didn't have any Vibe (The feeling, not the place onboard).

The bathroom was no big deal, I don't know why people get upset about it, but they do.

I remember choosing a room with the bed by the sliding door/balcony. I think some cabins have the bed near the bathroom and people complained about the flushing noise waking them up.
