I agree. I don't mind wacky, but it took my eyes awhile to adjust on Splendor. 😵‍💫

Carnival cruisers tend to be colorful, not beige anyway.

Loool. DW and I started on HAL, and wound up on Oceania, and tried Carnival… flatly the reverse of what most people would do. There are others in there too. We tend to alternate between RC, Carnival, and MSC now. But I prefer the HAL / Oceania / MSC decor styles. MSC is very modern, HAL less so, Oceania is in the middle.

Looks like the Splendor's atrium (see pic).  Joe Farcus at his best.

Yup. I prefer the more subtle decor of the vista and excel class, but lots love the farcus era. Personally, I’d prefer the decor of the vista class on the spirit class ships (love the spirits).

I’ll never *not* cruise on a farcus designed ship though, and I will probably miss them when all the ships look the same inside.

  3. Personally, if itineraries are identical, it is whichever ship is to your liking. IMO I feel the miracle has the worst decor in the carnival fleet. The mdr looks like a Tuscan theme gone wrong, and all the bathroom doors have heads with mouths at awkward heights 😆

Exactly, without facts we don't know if they meant she looked young as in 18-20 and should not have been drinking but still allowed to be in attendance as a legal adult who is free to make her own poor decisions, looked young but was actually 21+ and free to make her own poor decisions, or an actual minor under 18 where others would need to be deficient in their responsibilities and/or actively assist her in her poor decision making.

This is why I refrained from posting she wasn’t of age. It was implied in the post, and I commented in my reply that if this were factual that the reasons were obvious why this wasn’t a good thing.

The only indication the person was underage is people saying "she looked young."

In reality, she was most-likely age appropriate.  I'm not stating an opinion of this supposed incident, but this shouldn't be a factor, unless her age was confirmed.

And this is also why I am refraining from outright saying she WAS underage. I have no proof.

Exactly, because you were given the choice to go or not to go.

My comment referred to you having obviously judgmental interpretation of Virgin Voyages.  There are some adult themes (and no kids).  Adult themed ≠ promiscuous.

It was meant as a facetious comment regarding the entertainment option, not that people that cruise on it actually ARE promiscuous. Hell, I have been on cruises where there are a TON of pineapples and it doesn’t bother me. 😝

No offense, but your judgment regarding Virgin Voyages might be a little prudish...

You can consider it to be you like, I just consider entertainment like that to be tactless, and is why I have never went to any of the quest shows on Carnival or Royal Caribbean.

not at all.  Some of us just believe that if you are going to an "adult" show, you should expect some inappropriate jokes / humor to happen.  If you cannot handle that kind of show, then you should not be there.

if you don't heed the warnings prior to going in, its 100% on you and not the fault of the cruise line or the CD or anyone else that you got offended / upset by what you saw or heard.

and in regards to the girl who's age was in question - with all things, there's always a chance that SOMEONE is going to take it too far (especially when there's alcohol involved).  This is the "exception" and not necessarily the "rule"...  and the show shouldn't be canceled because of one persons bad judgement.  (but having said that, the CD and/or staff probably should have stepped in before it got as far as it did)

Agree about the CD letting this get too far, and alcohol should never have been served if age was a factor.

  9. Sounds like some of you should try virgin cruises (or as I call them, the promiscuous cruises), where blow up dolls adorn the pool deck, and the entertainers toss condoms out. I’m glad Carnival is trying to move upmarket. I only hope they continue to do so. Not a prude, but a girl whose age was called into question openly stimulating herself (as implied by a statement in here) is HIGHLY inappropriate. I don’t need to state the legal reasons why.

Quest used to be fun. It became raunchy, and I’m no prude. On one of my sailings, although I didn’t go, it was the talk of the ship the next day. A young drunk girl, who many said looked under 21 (but everyone looks 14 to me nowadays), got onstage, stripped naked, and proceeded to either simulate or actually pleasure herself. If this is enjoyable to some, then go enjoy the show.

im no prude either, but I would be totally mortified if I saw that. I don’t need to state the obvious reasons why Carnival shouldn’t let someone do this, especially if her age was questionable.

You are absolutely correct. It used to be a fun game. It was all pretty innocent fun before a few had to ruin it.

Carnival seems to be on high alert these days as to stuff that gets them negative publicity, a booze cruise rep, etc. I’m not surprised to see this axed

…and crap like that is precisely what gives Carnival a bad rep.

  13. as someone that is an avid Carnival, MSC, and Royal cruiser, the Venezia is a ship that I wont sail on.

The passenger space ratio is one of the worst in the Carnival fleet. Take the overall tonnage, and divide it out by the passenger load. 135,000 tons for about 4000 passengers at double occupancy vs 228,000 tons for about  5500 pax double occupancy.

I also will not sail on it due to the ship being severely under-pooled for the amount of pax it can carry, which can lead to lots of congestion in the pool areas.

My final reason for not sailing on it is that it does not have a 'ship within a ship' area, like the other vista and excel class ships (which would be a requirement for me to deal with the poor space ratio).

Oh, boy, how much time do you have to read the list?🤣

Here goes, off the top of my head (disclaimer: some of these items were added to the list after cutbacks years ago, so newer Carnival cruisers might not know that they were ever included with a Carnival cruise; also, some of these items weren't necessarily included before, but are on my list to try to make up for 😞 the results of cutbacks that I have experienced):

    My Carnival Cutback Packing List

    • king size foam mattress pad
    • assortment of good quality teas
    • chocolates to leave on my kids' beds after turn-down
    • good hand soap
    • lotion
    • individually wrapped butter pats
    • individually wrapped plastic drinking straws
    • Sugar In The Raw packets
    • small carton of heavy cream
    • cleaning supplies including Clorox wipes, bleach tablets, etc.)
    • food/drink tray
    • drink umbrellas (maybe - I haven't decided yet, but a boat drink isn't much of a boat drink without an umbrella, and my kids love them, too)

I know there's more.  This is just all I can think of right now.

I do seem to remember elemis bath products being provided in all cabins at one time, but now it seems it is just in the suites and Havana cabins.

If one azipod stops working, the ship loses all redundancy in steering, and so the USCG requires a tug escort for any ship without steering redundancy, from the sea buoy to the dock.

so is this likely why when the wife and I were on Panorama, we docked with a tug at long beach? This was some bit ago and didn't think much of it then, but this was right around the time Panorama was having propulsion issues. I remember reading a month or two after we returned from the cruise that the ship had propulsion issues again.

It was back in November 2021, and something about the max cruise speed was the issue

Interesting choice to have only 2 Spirit class ships in Alaska. Especially with all the other lines going bigger in Alaska (not that I agree with that)

Perhaps there is still more to come with Alaska?

With Venezia, Panorama, and Radiance all on the west coast doing MX riviera runs, it will not surprise me to see Carnival shift one of these ships, like how Royal Caribbean has been doing. Summer in Alaska, winter doing MX riviera. It would be feasible to send the Venezia or Panorama up the coast, as they are higher occupancy and would compete a bit better with the larger ships from Royal and NCL. I cant imagine there is *that* much demand for MX sailings, and the pricing would lead me to believe I am correct. AK is usually one of the highest ADR for Carnival, where the riviera tends to be the lowest.  I could see this happening, especially as Juneau is looking to put a cap on how many ships can visit. A larger capacity ship = a way around the cap.

And having stayed in a Terrazza aft for 2 weeks, I can say it goes from Ghostown during the day when it's restricted to full after 7 when it's open to all.

This would be a dealbreaker for me. My wife and I like the Havana areas on the Vista and Excel ships due to the fact that they are less crowded at night, and as a result usually quieter

She and I actually had three sailings on Venezia that were in the Terraza cabins, but we canceled once we found out that it was not completely private. Glad to see I made the right call.
