Auntybs Posted August 5, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2017 We will be in Victoria on August 16th and my kids want to go whale watching. Has anyone done that? Any suggestions? Thanks.
trophy_23 Posted August 5, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 5, 2017 There are a few companies in Victoria. We have been with Prince of Whales, they were good. They all end up going to the same area. We liked the viewing areas on the Prince of Whales boat best. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare martincath Posted August 5, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 5, 2017 ^Prince of Whales Zodiac tours are the only ones we've actually taken from Victoria - as mentioned, it doesn't matter which company you use in terms of likelihood of finding whales as they all share info. What does make a difference is length of tour (some cruiseline-chartered ones are shorter) and speed of boat - faster boat means greater distance can be traveled in your tour time to better odds of being able to reach the whales. MRSBITS Posted August 5, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 5, 2017 How far is the Prince of Whales departure point from where our Celebrity Solstice cruise will dock on May 10, 2018? Additionally, does the zodiac excursion allow for good "photo shots", or is it moving too fast? TIA Carolyn

TIA Carolyn The inner harbour area in front of the Empress has pretty much every kind of water-related transport except cruise ships - these dock at Ogden Point. Decent map image here. Probably 30mins on foot to PoW pier by most direct route, and they do like you to check in early for whale tours (especially zodiacs as they put you into polar bear suits first). All whale boats stop to watch the whales - if you spot something while moving that the guide doesn't notice, shout!
