rocker57 Posted April 28, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 28, 2012 I notice when looking up taxi or car rates, that these do not include the tolls. What would the tolls be from Newark to Manhattan? Also, when they quote the price, do you know if that is per person or not? I see the minivan from Dial 7 is $60 plus tolls & gratuities, if it is for the car, then that would be a good price. And because it is New York, and I don't usually take cabs, what is the proper % for tip? Thanks for your help!
chrisc71 Posted April 28, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 28, 2012 According to Port Authority site the cash toll is $12.00 but cheaper with EZ Pass. You may want to check with the car service what the cost will be since they would use EZ Pass. http://www.panynj.gov/bridges-tunnels/tolls.html Usually cost for a car covers all. njhorseman Posted April 28, 2012 #3 Share Posted April 28, 2012 In addition to the tunnel toll of $12, you will pay a NJ Turnpike toll of about $2 to $2.50 depending on the route taken. In my experience, it's pretty common for call services to just add a flat amount for tolls to the fare that approximates the actual toll...for example from Manhattan to Newark Airport they may charge you $15 for tolls, and not vary it based on the exact route the car takes, or vary it for EZ Pass versus cash toll. The fare quotes from the care service are per vehicle, not per person. We usually tip about 20% in NY...15% would be a bare minimum.
