Califonria cruiser Posted October 24, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2006 When we went on our last cruise we drove south of Castries and to to the volcanic area, springs, botanical gardens, etc. If we go north, what is Pigeon Island like? What else would there be to see? Any otehr recommendations? We plan on renting a car and have driven there before so know what to expect! Any ideas? billybob123 Posted November 19, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 19, 2006 Sorry for the delay in replying, haven't read this forum in months (hope you're still reading this!) -- but Pigeon Island was the best part of our visit to the Caribbean. It's essentially deserted (a few tourists and no cruise passengers). If you're fit enough to hike up a fairly steep hill in the heat, Fort Rodney at the top of the smaller hill is a fantastic spot if you're into historical forts, also into fantastic views. If you're adventurous, you can climb to the top of Signal Hill, where if it's a clear day, you can supposedly seeMartinique to the North (it wasn't visible on our trip) -- but it's not an easy hike to the very top. The round-trip cab ride from Castries cost us around $25 US... and the entrance to the park was $3 or $5. If you're looking for a beautiful hike in the fresh air and avoid the teeming mass of ship passengers at Soufriere or the Pitons, Pigeon Island's a great place to visit.... Hope you enjoy your cruise!
