POA v Jewel

Hello,

I did the POA Hawaii cruise a few years back and have just booked the Jewel out of Australia for Christmas and NYE. How does the Jewel compare to the POA? I really enjoyed the food on the POA, but found the entertainment lacking. Also cabin sizes, by far the smallest cabins we've cruised on. Due to the budget we have booked an inside in level 5. And one last thing, the ship is in US dollars, is everything put on your account or do we need cash? Some ships i've traveled on have made you use cash for bingo and the casino and i just want to be prepared.

Thanks for your help!

I've sailed both and can comment on some of your questions. The Jewel has more amenities and is a bigger ship than POA. I've only sailed in balcony cabins on both ships, but in general NCL cabins are smaller than the other lines we've sailed ( Disney and Royal). Entertainment, food and service on the Jewel is far better than POA in our opinion, but all are subjective.

We've only sailed NCL out of the US, so I don't know what currency they use in Austraila. As a Canadian, recently we have been given the choice to have our on board account in Canadian dollars, but their conversion rate has always been higher than that of our credit card.

The Jewel is approx 300 pax bigger than the Jewel, you will find the cabins a bit bigger on the Jewel class ships.

As for food all the menu's come from HQ Miami. We just sailed the POA in Jan for b2b cruise

but we only eat in the specialty restaurants as we do on all NCL ships and can't say that there was any difference in the food.

As for entertainment the shows will pretty well be the same as POA. It's when you go to the bigger ships that you'll get a couple different shows IE Cirque.

All charges on board will be put on your onboard acct. You will have set up an acct at the pier and either do it for cash or credit card. Your cc will be charged at end of cruise. NO cash needed.

You do need cash for the casino. You can withdraw it from your on board account, minimum to withdraw is $100 and there's a 3% fee on it. Believe bingo and the raffle tickets can be charged to your onboard account though.

I've done 2 cruises that left from non-USA ports, an Alaska cruise out of Vancouver, and a Scandinavian cruise out of Rotterdam.

US dollars were used on both cruises for the on-board account and for the casinos, although the Scandinavian cruise on the Jade did have a couple of blackjack tables & 1 roulette wheel that took euros.
