VBMom13 Posted April 2, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 2, 2017 I am booked on the Jewel of the Sea, sailing August 13, 2017. According to our itinerary, we are scheduled to be in Santorini on the 15th. This is Assumption Day, a Greek national holiday. What can I expect will be open or closed on that day? Any suggestions of what to do that day would be appreciated. Jwugg Posted April 2, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 2, 2017 The main thing you can expect is that Santorini will be full. Really full. Fuller than it always is. Santorini is extremely popular with tourists & cruise ships & of course August is the busiest & hottest month. The 2 weeks around 15th August are also the favourite Greek holiday times, when most people who can leave Athens, do so, for the islands. All (or almost all) tavernas & tourist shops will be open. wineandbeach Posted September 16, 2017 #4 Share Posted September 16, 2017 We went with Iliana from Santorini Wine Trails and had a great day. Oia and Fira could get really crowded but we wanted to see them. We spent time in both towns plus toured the island including spending time walking around the black beach, visiting a lighthouse with amazing views and visiting 2 wineries with a great lunch. It was an Island tour away from the crowds and we loved it.
