ne95014 Posted July 3, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 3, 2018 Leaving for the Caribbean on Saturday and noticed "High Wind" listed for the weather in Grand Turk. Will that impact the ship docking? Probably means a rough sail as well. :o
Davey Wavey Posted July 5, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 5, 2018 We were unable to dock in Grand Turk on two of my cruises because of high winds, so yes it can affect docking. Both times the ship pulled in very close to the dock in case the winds died long enough, but had to move away. It would seem a big ship wouldn't have problems with wind, but there is a video somewhere of the Carnival Legend leaving a port during high winds and scraping the side of RCL Enchantment. rvande99 Posted July 6, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 6, 2018 We are also leaving for the western Caribbean on sat. Do you think hurricane Beryl will impact ports, St thomas, Turks, San Juan and dom. Republic. Have travel insurance and thinking of cancelling.
JT1962 Posted July 8, 2018 #4 Share Posted July 8, 2018 (edited) We are also leaving for the western Caribbean on sat. Do you think hurricane Beryl will impact ports, St thomas, Turks, San Juan and dom. Republic. Have travel insurance and thinking of cancelling. The ports you mention are in the Eastern Caribbean, not Western Caribbean. Western Caribbean includes Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Roatan, Belize, Cozumel, etc. While it definitely will affect the areas it hits, as of today, it has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm with winds of 45 mph. I would not cancel. The ships are very good about staying away from the storms. You may end up going to different ports, or in a different order, than originally scheduled, but the cruise lines rarely sail into storms if there is any chance of issues. The upside is they may give you onboard credit, partial refund or credit towards a future cruise, depending on how much your itinerary is affected.
