Rare FionaMG Posted August 10, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2018 I would like to help support the local economy by buying some handicrafts but want to be sure they are genuine locally-crafted items rather than cheap imports that I could potentially buy anywhere in the world. What sort of items might be worth looking out for?
RMH Posted August 10, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2018 There are two areas that you can shop in Labadee - The Artisan's Market, which is inside a building and all the prices are clearly marked. There is no haggling. And the Artisan's Village, which are open air stalls with no set prices and haggling for price is common. Both are supposed to be genuine local, but who knows? I am sure you can get the cheap imports at either spot, but my guess is that in the Village you would have better luck with genuine items. Either way, you will be helping to support their economy. Rare FionaMG Posted August 11, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted August 11, 2018 Thanks for the helpful reply, RMH. I did not realise there are two different shopping areas. I am not big on haggling so it's good to know there's an alternative. :)
