toribrite Posted May 10, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 10, 2017 I saw that on at least one cruise the port stop to Le Havre was changed due to strikes. I haven't been able to find much information on this. Was is cancelled? Still going on?
easyboy Posted May 10, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 10, 2017 Not the first time it happened. One time it's the weather. Sent from my iPad using Forums
aloha*grl Posted September 30, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 30, 2017 Our September 10 Caribbean Princess cruise was diverted to Guernsey (which we originally missed because of turbulent seas) instead of Le Havre due to a dockworkers' strike. In addition to all the passengers missing a day in Paris/Normandy, MANY of us were very disappointed because we were disembarking at Le Havre. Whilst missed ports are always a possibility, apparently the cruise line knew about this for days and didn't notify us so we could disembark in Edinburgh or make other arrangements. As a result, we returned to Southampton and flew from London to Paris, missing a day in France and incurring extra expenses. If we had been notified in advance we could have changed our hotel rooms, etc., and saved penalties.
trhattan Posted October 6, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 6, 2017 Aloha Grl, did you have to pay out of your pocket to get yourself to Paris from London or did Princess compensate you for (and arrange?) the flight? We just booked the British Aisle cruise for next August and chose La Havre as our start/finish port so we could more easily do a multi-day WWII Normandy tour before or after our cruise. Maybe we would be better off changing our start/finish to Southhampton and then go to Normandy? Somehow, I guess that there will be fewer problems with Southhampton vs Le Havre. Your thoughts? John Bull Posted October 7, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 7, 2017 Industrial action by French dock workers?? Surely not ;) Yes, they have a reputation. And sometimes fishermen with a grievance against the government block the harbour. Decades ago it was a British disease, nowadays it's more of a problem in France than in most other countries. But the vast vast majority of days neither industrial action nor the weather is a problem.:) You have to be very unlucky to miss the port, though the risk is worth thinking about for those who plan to leave the ship a day early in Le Havre (or Cherbourg or even Zeebrugge) & fly home from Paris etc rather than completing the cruise next day in Southampton or Dover.
