spotted eagle ray

was in st thomas off the serenade 4/18 . did an afternoon dive thru the ship (they go thru underwater safaris- good operator) only four of us on the dive boat with two dive masters. our dive master ryan led us on a great dive and we were visited by a spotted eagle ray with about a 10 foot tail that circled the area about seven times. what a sight... ryan said in over a 1000 dives he never saw them circle like that normally very skittish

I dove in Roatan a few weeks ago. 1 large Ray swam along with us ( about 50' away) for a good 5-10 min before swimming off for a while. It ended up comming back again about 30 min later during our 2nd tank. My dm said that Rays are rare in the area, I must be lucky because I have seen at least 1 every time I dove or snorkled in the past 2 years except for in Cancun.

Was in St Thomas with Underwater Safaris on 4/2 with about 18 divers on board. Great dive operator. Saw spotted eagle ray in sand pointed out by divemaster Mike Riley. After we all gathered around, eagle ray lifted from the sand, shook of the sand, and gracefully flew(swam) away. Mike wondered why I didn't take a picture with my underwater camera. I don't know if this album will open up, but it's the first two photos in the "Roatan" album. Spotted ray, HUGE tail, seen on the bottom while snorkeling in about 8-10 feet of water, about 30 yards from shore, in a grassy/sandy bottomed area.
