Host Walt Posted June 21, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 21, 2004 We're getting close to the next try to convert to the new message board platform (vBulletin). The issue last time was the volume of the data base. That means that, to ensure success, the archive of posts will be made smaller by moving less history. I do not know what the cutoff date will be but am reasonably sure it will be not much more than 3 months of posts. That means a thread that started on, say, November 30, 2003 will _not_ be imported even if a post to that thread was made yesterday. It's safe to say that a thread that started on or after April 1, 2004 will be imported, so if you want to plan ahead, if you have a continuing thread that started before April 1, 2004, you may want to start a new thread now rather than lose the whole thread during the conversion...and copy over any of the older stuff you want to retain. The old boards will remain available for a short time (a week or so) after the conversion, then they'll be gone and not accessible. Thus, setting up links to the old posts will not work. It is very possible that the history period will be a few months longer (say March 1 or February 1) but it's best not to count on that. In any case, we are all looking forward to a nice clean, fast and error free platform coming soon to a computer near you. lesharona Posted June 22, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 22, 2004 It has always worked great, why are you changing it? I liked the fact you could bring up a lot of history, it came in very handy last year when we planned our trip to Hawaii.

The "Find" function has been unreliable when it works (which was seldom). After about 6 months of serious malfunctions it was finally decided that it was time to switch platforms to permit more consistent performance and to add some features that have been requested by Members. Splinter Posted June 26, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 26, 2004 You cut off the old posts too quickly without enough warning. We have lost a lot of valuable information. I hope others will start new posts with a lot of the missing information, especially good port resources, Special Services contacts for various cruise lines, and ship reviews. I had not been here in 3 days, and this was all gone....too late to copy over and post as new messages which I had hoped to do. Not very good service from CC!!!! Splinter Posted June 27, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 27, 2004 Found old message boards that will disappear end of June (this week)? And spent a number of hours copying over valuable resource information for various destinations. Can any of these be made "sticky" so they will remain at the top of the forum, at least for a while? It has been done as you requested. Great work Splinter. Thanks for your good efforts.
