Visiting Vatican on a Wednesday

I read somewhere that the Pope is in the Vatican on Wednesdays and that tourists are unable to see much.

If that is so, what areas will I be able to see?

I have never been to Rome and want to see the highlights at a "reasonable" pace. If some parts of the Vatican are closed, will I still have some good photos for a short stop?

Thank you for any advice!

The museums won't be impacted by the papal audience- actually the opposite- lines are a little more tame than usual. The Basilica will open back up around 1pm or so. Buy tickets for the museums in advance if you can.

Is there a long security line to go through...like the Coliseum?

Thank you!

We went on a Wednesday. We were supposed to go to the Vatican and then the Colosium. They changed it to the Vatican last because the Pope would be finished by the afternoon. It was very crowded in the Vatican but I'm so glad we went.

We are coming from a Ship and may be pressed for time. I will ask what we would miss if we went to the Vatican first and decide from there.

Thank you for the info.
