Extra time between Anchorage and Matanuska Glacier - suggestions?

We will be arriving in Anchorage (from Seward) on Sunday evening. We planned to pick up our rental car early and head to Knick Glacier and then on to Homestead Cabins and Matanuska Glacier for a 4:30 Ice Fall Trek. I am finally booking and waited too long for Knik Glacier and it is sold out. Now we have extra time before we can check into the cabin. What would you do with an extra few hours?

We can:

stay in Seward a little longer and visit Exit Glacier after our Kenai Fjords tour. We should still be able to take our time enjoying the drive to Anchorage. If it is late, we can move food shopping til in the morning.

Or - skip Exit Glacier and drive to Anchorage as planned and then do something else in the morning, in or around the Anchorage area before heading towards Matanuska Glacier area.

Or - other recommendations?

Just north of Anchorage (on the way to Matanuska Glacier) is Eagle River. Exit off of the Glenn Highway and go right on Eagle River Loop. About 2-3 miles you'll come to Eagle River Road - make another right (there's a big Walmart Supercenter right there if you need anything...) and head about 11 miles to the Eagle River Nature Center. The highway dead ends into the parking lot. The scenery along the way is pretty spectacular. At the nature center are some easy walking trails that will take you out to the Eagle River where there are several viewing platforms. Some very spectacular scenery. We stumbled onto this last year while just driving around at random one evening. I've suggested this cool side trip a few times. It cost a few dollars to park at the nature center so it's an inexpensive thing to do. The nature center wasn't open when we were there (late in the evening but it was summer so it wasn't dark...) so I have no idea what is inside the building. You can easily spend a couple hours on there. Here are a couple examples of the scenery.
