Vegetarian food in Progreso?

My Husband and I are vegetarians. We are taking a Carnival Cruise fron New Orleans in September, stopping at Progreso and Cozumel. We are planning on hanging out in Progreso near the beach. I want to shop, drink, eat and relax at the beach. Anyone know if there are vegetarian options at any of the restaurants near or on the beach?

I'm sure at the least any restaurant will have chips & salsa and black beans & rice. Plenty of fresh fish and seafood if that's on your list.

We don't eat seafood! We aren't too hard to please. Chips and salsa would suit us fine!

I'm pretty sure there are some vegatarian restaurants in Merida.

The most famous vegetarian restaurant in Merida is called Amaro. In Progreso the chips and salsa option is your best bet. And maybe a carrot. :)

Remember that refried beans, to get that great flavor, are made with pork lard. :)

I always check http://www.happycow.net when I'm traveling. I also add vegetarian restaurants that I run across to help other vegetarians find places to eat. My way of paying it forward.

Do you enjoy fresh fruit juices? The market has fruit vendors and the one on the corner that looks out onto the main street running perpendicular to the beach (and across from the where the lighthouse is) sells fresh orange, orange/carrot etc juices. Have a couple of those along with some fresh bananas (try the little ones) as well as a pitaya or two (dragonfruit) which is in season now.
