Xcalak snorkeling or stay closer to port?

Our group of four will be arriving on LOS on February 1. I’ve heard the snorkeling is better in Xcalak. Has anyone been there, and if so, how did you get there, and how long a ride is it? Should we bother with Xcalak or stay closer to the port? Any suggestions on tour operators would be appreciated. One of our party is not a snorkeler, so would need a nice place to hang out. I’m not sure if there is much in Xcalak. Thanks in advance!
