Transfer time

We disembark the Windsurf in Civitavecchia on Sunday July 10,2005. The schedule shows an arrival (docking) time of 6AM. Does anyone have a good estimate, or past experience, on when we might be off the ship? One couple needs to be at the Rome train terminal for a 945am departure. The other couple needs to be at the airport for a 1010am departure. Both couples will be using Bob's Limousine Service in separate cars to speed up the process. I know that the run time to the airport is about 30 minutes, but have no idea about the train terminal.

The times you cite are very tight and allow no room for error or traffic issues. Rome airport requires 2 hour checkin, so 8:10 am arrival is necessary.

Normally we will never book a return flight for the same day as we disembark in Europe, except, perhaps, Copenhagen where the airport is a very short trip from mthe dock. The trip home usually requires a connection somewhere. When we arrived in Rome, we booked an early afternoon flight to Frankfurt, stayed overnight in the airport (Sheraton) hotel, and took a 10:10am flight home.

For peace of mind and to permit a leisurely farewell to your fellow passengers and cruise staff in Rome, I strongly suggest that, if you can, you change your flight plans.

The couple travelling by train is better off in making their connection because the checkin time is 15 minutes, not 2 hours, but remember that luggage handling on board can be difficult. (Passengers can no longer leave luggage in the storage racks at the ends of the cars. All luggage must stay with the passengers at their seats. (New rule after the Madrid bombings.))

Walt, thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, our air reservations are firm. Hopefully traffic will be minimal on a Sunday, and the personal limo service wil speed up the transfer. The ships' staff has been very good at getting us off the ship first when we have had a tight connection in the past.
