dileep Posted October 2, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 2, 2010 End of December is a good time. An itinerary that includes the Falkland and South Georgia Islands would be good. This will be an expensive expedition but you might find some good sales. I got email recently about a trip on FRAM for Dec 2010 from an Australian site http://www.cruisetraveller.com.au/content/itineraries-
NCCruzQueen Posted October 3, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 3, 2010 My TA only books cruises to Antarctica, the Falklands and South Georgia mid January. That way you get to see the King penguin chicks. Supposed to be the best time. I'm booking January 2012 on the Prince Albert II.
MJC Posted October 3, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 3, 2010 Sometimes if you go too early in December, the ice hasn't retreated enough to get into some of the locations. We went in late January and it was perfect. Penguin colonies at the southernmost location we visited were still nesting, and further north the chicks had hatched, so we got to see the whole variety of the nesting cycle. I highly recommend a trip that includes South Georgia. The scenery is stunning and the wildlife is bountiful and completely unafraid.
dileep Posted October 5, 2010 #5 Share Posted October 5, 2010 We went in early January and it was fine. We saw the pictures from the previous cruise at the end of December and they had a good expedition too. our video
Ahab10 Posted October 10, 2010 #6 Share Posted October 10, 2010 We went late February on the Andrea which is not listed here. Small ship which was able to get into the shallower bays. We did 2 landings most days and never suffered for lack of wildlife. Whales, seals, penguins, and even a swimming session in a volcano caldera. The shipboard experience was super. We spent several days in Buenos Airies and Ushuia.:D
DanielGreen Posted December 8, 2010 #7 Share Posted December 8, 2010 Hi! I know that Discover the World offers Antarctic cruises to any taste. I guess the one you're interested in here. What I like the most it's that you can read all the details about your holiday and see the prices and departures at once.
