How much does it cost to take a taxi from Ashdod to Jerusalem? Is the price per person or per car? Is there taxis waiting at the ship or do you have to pre-order ahead of time? Thanks!

A private taxi from Ashdod to Jerusalem is about 240 NIS or about $65 each way for a taxi that can carry up to 4 pax. The price is an official price that the driver must abide by, but there may be a small supplement for the port area.

There will be plenty of taxis waiting at the port.

I refer you, again, to the tripadvisor website with the local experts. According to them, a recent official price was 283 NIS for a one way trip. A full day taxi, where you hire the driver in the morning, travel to Jerusalem, and he/she waits with you and returns you to port, costs 1000 NIS.

According to the Ashdod Port website there is a free shuttle from the parking lot to the docks. In the worst case the OP will just get off the taxi at the gate and hop on the shuttle

The port is not arranging any free shuttle! if there is a shuttle it is only if the cruise company arrange it. Ashdod is going to be a very busy port this year and in some date you have 2-3 ships at the same day. That means that some of the ships will dock not by the passenger's terminal pier.

What one can do is to take one of the authorized taxi driver's cell phone number. To get back to Ashdod by bus or regular taxi and use the local authorized one to enter the port. The distance between the gate and the pier is far and you can't walk due to security reasons.

If you do take a taxi, just don't come back late and miss the ship. A year ago we took a Celebrity cruise and used a cruise ship tour to see Jerusalem. There were protesters along the highway and on the return trip our bus barely made it back in time. A few other buses did get back late due to traffic tie ups. The ship waited for them but won't wait for a private tour that returns late.

I stand corrected. The website does mention a shuttle service but upon further investigation it is only to certain ships during the summer season.

I did get the name of the authorized taxi service. It is Sea Mall Taxis, and their number is *5533 from any phone in Israel. They can pick you up from anywhere in Ashdod (or anywhere else if you prefer) and take you to your ship.

How do you pay the taxi driver? do they take US dollars or Euros? Just getting off a ship with out proper currency is a problem cuz most ATMS only let you get a maximum of $US 400.

Taxi drivers from the port will accept both.

The drivers have a table of the official intercity prices, and I am pretty sure it is also in English.

If the Port of Ashdod operates as the airports do, there will also be big signs informing (warning?) people of what the price of a taxi ride is to major points in Israel.

Cab drivers will take foreign currency, but they mostly prefer $.

Check for the exchange rate if you can before getting off the ship. Some cab drivers, as all over, aren't the most honest chaps on the planet.
