Flipper133 Posted April 25, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 25, 2011 We were on the Sun Princess on Anzac day 2009 - same cruise and pretty much same location. Princess had organised a minister (army chap I think) to board in Darwin so we could have the appropriate services. There was a Dawn service (I missed that unfortunately) and a Diggers March on Riviera Deck where they had another service. Really well done and good on ya Princess - the Sun Princess is now officially Ozzie. cheers
Scurvy Dog Posted April 27, 2011 #4 Share Posted April 27, 2011 Belated Digger day to all..:) This is sort of related I just got back from Albany West Aust for the Easter break. I actually went to the dawn sevice at Mount Clarence. This was the last port of call in Australia the ANZAC's boys saw before leaving Australia for Gallopoli hence the last place in Australia many of them would ever see again..It was a very moving ceremony, there is even talk that Mount Clarence is the first place to have actually ever have held an ANZAC Day service. There is also an intresting story involving the monument on Mount Clarence..If your ever in Albany check it out great views and a special place. ..Check out the links if anyone is intrested. Obviously most of the troop ships are converted Liners..not the sort of Cruising we are all used too..and probley not one anyone of us would of want to take. May they Rest In Peace. http://www.api-network.com/main/index.php?apply=scholars&webpage=default&flexedit=&flex_password=&menu_label=&menuID=homely&menubox=&scholar=73 page with intresting pic of liners lined up in King George Sound with some history info as well http://www.flotilla-australia.com/hmat.htm page about the liners that went http://www.nzmr.org/bess.htm page about the monument
