On one cruise we were on--Cant remeber which ship-- we were told to NOT hang anything on the railings. They often hose the side of the ship down so I wouldnt put anything out there. Almost every cruise weve been on they have cleaned balconies with hoses.

Darn. I guess that means I can't string my clothes line across the balcony :(

Last Nov. 2007 we had a balcony on a Panama Cruise with RCL. On one sunny day in port I did hang my laundry on a bungee cord around the two chairs. It dried perfectly.

We were given notice on the days they were going to hose down the balcony so if you need to dry something do it.....Hope no one saw my laundry in Acapulco.
