sunnyam Posted August 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 16, 2004 Has anyone ever used a wheelchair accessible tender? Does anyone know if Legend of the Sea ship with Royal Carrib. has one?
kitty9 Posted August 16, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 16, 2004 The Legend is an old ship by today's standards so I highly doubt they would have special tenders. Your best bet is to call RCCI special services department and ask them.
Splinter Posted August 16, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 16, 2004 I believe most of the Royal Carib. ships have these. Have not been on the Legend, but we were on the Vision last winter, and they have one. The problem is that it does not work well when the seas are at all rough, so you need to be prepared for not going ashore if this is the circumstance. Getting back onto the ship is it gets rough while you are ashore can also be problematic. The ship has the right to refuse you passage on the tender based on the captain's assessment of the conditions. Just plan for a back-up for shipboard activity if this should occur, and make your land-side plans accordingly.
DEL67 Posted August 17, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 17, 2004 As of last October, tender lifts were installed in all Royal Caribbean ships so the Legend should have one. However, from experience we have found that accessibility of the tenders themselves vary by port. And even by tender. Also, only one tender exit on each ship has a lift; therefore you will not be able to use it if the other exit is being used. In addition, another poster indicated that you need to tell them that you want to use the lift an may have to wait until everyone else has gone ashore. On the other hand, we have found the crew almost always willing to lift my husband (all 6' 2" of him) in his manual chair down/up the steps and into the tender. The only exception has been when the seas were rough.
