sammthe66 Posted September 25, 2004 #1 Share Posted September 25, 2004 We will be in San Juan in January (Explores of the Sea), I checked thru Royal Caribbean to book the old/new city tour but they do not list it. We will be there from 2 - 8 pm. When we get off the ship will we see private tour buses offering you a tour.
RichardK Posted September 26, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 26, 2004 I assume you're talking about a tour of Old San Juan where the ships dock. OSJ is not designed as a bus tour -- it's prefect for walking. It's about 10 square blocks of history - i.e., forts, churches, plazas, museums, etc. There are many maps available on the internet, as well as the visitor center (pink little building) while there. If you're able WALK IT YOURSELF -- no need for a bus, to pay for a tour, whatever. Enjoy. I'll be there once again for 3-days pre cruise in January. I never get tired of OSJ!! bUU Posted September 26, 2004 #3 Share Posted September 26, 2004 I just checked for my January cruise on the Serenade of the Seas, and the Old San Juan Walking Tour (Ending at SJU Airport) is listed as one of the options.
jkloni Posted September 29, 2004 #4 Share Posted September 29, 2004 We took the Hilbilly tour and had a great time. We saw a few things in the city such as government buildings, monuments, graveyard, the fort, etc., but the highlight was the free drinks during the tour. We stopped by a liquor store and were given samples (delicious frozen ones), plus he took a bottle of rum with him and let us refill our glasses while touring. He was very funny and spoke excellent English (he's from Brooklyn or Queens and when his father became ill, he moved to San Juan). He also has a guarantee. If you do not enjoy the tour, it's free. You don't owe him a dime. I think it was $10 person. And we tipped him $5. He was by the pier as we got off - along with all the others trying to sell you tours.
