What To Do In San Juan??????

If you just walk off the ship at the pier, is there a beach close by, shopping etc. Can anyone recommend a good tour that would interest a 11 year old girl? We do not see too much that interests us, that RCCL is offering for tours. We are leaning towards taking a city tour, so we can at least see some of the area.

berly- don't know if you would be interested in this but if you walk to the visitors center which is about 1/4 of a mile to your left down the main drag when you get off the ship they have horse drawn carriage rides. When we were there in July we took my nieces 10 & 13 on them and they loved it. They have 1/2 hr and 1 tours through Old San Juan. It was $ 65.00 for DH me and the two girls. ( 1/2hr) Afterwards we visited the flea market and walked back to the ship and stopped in front of that big casino hotel and had "virgin pina coladas". It was a very fun couple of hours.

I have not been (but am planning), (so take this for what it is worth):

It is very easy to take your own walking tour of OSJ. If you are truly interested, I will post the link (I can't find it right now). If nothing else, you can always walk to El Moro.
And, there is a very small beach across the street from the capitol bldg...there are no amenities - you will have to rough it; but they do have a small breakwater to make the water a little less rough.
You can also take a 15 minute bus ride, for a quarter, and get to the excellent beaches at Ocean Park. (this is what I plan to do; and El Moro).

I've written this elsewhere but will do this one more time. We felt we got a great deal our of our walking tour of Old San Juan because we had a tour guide. Debbie at Legends of Puerto Rico does a great tour from 10:00am to 12:00noon. Leaves from the Visitors Center. Her web site is www.legendsofpr.com. She does other tours as described on her web site. I bet your eleven year old would enjoy her and certainly would not be bored. The tour does not include El Morro because it is a National Park. You can add that on your own if you want. We went to lunch with Debbie and had a great time. Her tip was her lunch.
