Excursions for 2 and 4 yr old

The ship docks at the AC Wathey Cruise Pier, less then a mile from Philipsburg. There is a beach facing Great Bay at Philipsburg but I don't know if it is realistic to expect small kids to do this walk. You might think about using the water taxi (ferry) to shuttle you from the Pier to the beach, an all day pass is $6 pp per adult. You get a great view of the town as the ferry chugs across the bay.

Great Bay beach is free and there are operators who will rent you loungers and umbrellas; there also many food stands with light stuff. And public bathrooms are available at the ferry dock.

And since you will be located in the heart of cruiser territory, there will be no nudity and little or no toplessness; this is the Dutch side of the island.

Front Street, the main shopping drag, is a block from the beach. All the big shops are located in an 8 block stretch plus alleyways.

As far as excursions for small kids, there is a butterfly farm located near Orient Beach which they should like. You could cab it there, then be taken to Orient Beach, but Orient is the heart of French Beach culture, lots of toplessness and it is clothing optional at the Southern end.

So you could go to the butterfly farm first from the pier by cab, then cab back to Philipsburg and Great Bay Beach, then after you are beached and shopped out buy one way tickets and ferry back to the pier.

Thank Big. I'm trying to avoid cab because of the car seat situation. I was planning on walking with the double stroller

Then you can just stroll down the protected pathway from the pier to Great Bay Beach and spend the day there.

If you do any shopping while at the beach, be careful of your shopping bags.

The water taxi fleet is not that stroller friendly as you have to step up and down, and with a double-wide...........
