San Juan Hotels

Georgetown Mike

Recommended Posts

We are on the Summit in December sailing from San Juan. We have been to San Juan, but never sailed from there. I would appreciate recommendations for a hotel perferably near the Cruise Port. Thank You.

Hi Mike - take a look at the "Ports of Call" section, click caribbean, click San Juan, PR and you will find the threads dealing with all things San Juan.

There is a Sheraton that overlooks the pier, but as I remember it is pricey. Enjoy your cruise.

Just to let you know that when we have sailed from San Juan we have always sailed from the port that is not in Old San Juan. We have docked at the port in Old San Juan whenever the ship has San Juan as a port of call.

WE have stayed at the Caribe Hilton and the Marriott Stellaris. both are very nice. Marriott has nicer rooms and a great salsa band on Friday nights. Hilton has a nice bar with live music ; not as lively. Both hotels are pricey, but you can try priceline. Watch for the extra resort fee tacked on after you leave, even when you thought you paid in full on priceline.

Both hotels have nice pool areas; beaches in both are ok, not great.

hi mike!

Whats the date of your cruise? if its dec12th then you can join our roll call...We have gotten hotels through priceline pre and post cruise. Ask away..many of us can help you.

Hotels are not within walking distance of the pan american pier You will need a taxi no matter what hotel you choose. Taxis have regulated pricing.

Celebrity and RCCL do not depart from the Old San Juan cruise ports but rather a pier accross the harbor. They only dock in Old San Juan on in-transit port of call stops. Most people stay near the beach resorts or Old San Juan. Old San Juan might be the furthest of these but the cab fare is just $10 plus some minor charges for excess luggage and passengers, and takes only 15 to 20 minutes.

We've stayed in Old San Juan after a cruise friend suggested that while the beaches in San Juan are nice they are not as nice as the beaches you'll visit on your cruise while Old San Juan is more unique. There are nice places to tour and good food and drink. We've stayed at the Hotel Convento - very expensive but just a wonderful place. We've also stayed at the Hotel Milano which is relatively inexpensive. Rooms are clean and nice there but pretty basic. Their web site has (or had) some pre-cruise specials and while it says there is a two night minimum we had no problems making a one night reservation over the phone.

For my money the Caribe Hilton is the place to be. Great hotel, great food and pina Colota to die for. We are book there for our Jan cruise. Got a good price too!
