Addictedtocruising Posted September 16, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2009 Can anyone tell me what the current cost of a carton of cigarettes is in the stores? Does the supermarket sell them? Are there the same brands as we have here? Thanks much Donna
Addictedtocruising Posted September 18, 2009 Author #2 Share Posted September 18, 2009 I am surprised that no one could chime on here... I'm just wondering if I should bring cigarettes from home or save a few dollars and space in luggage and purchase them when I get to Puerto Rico. Thanks Donna
Aviator of the Seas Posted September 18, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 18, 2009 Cigarettes are about $6.00 a pack. Most of the brands sold in the states are sold here.
Addictedtocruising Posted September 18, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted September 18, 2009 Oh so they aren't any less than they are here? Do you know if I can purchase them in the airport duty free store to use in PR? I also read that they have them in the DF shop at the port, I see you just went on the AOS did you pass by the shop getting on the ship? Thank you very much for your time Donna
MaddyM Posted September 18, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 18, 2009 Hi Donna, We fly Continental Airlines and there is a duty free shop selling American cigarettes and liquor at the San Juan Airport. I don't recall the price of a carton but I vaguely remember thinking that it was a deal in comparison to carton prices I see advertised at our local gas station. I believe you can only buy from the duty free shop as you leave the Island. San Juan required our boarding pass prior to purchase. They wrapped our bottles very securely and we just carried them on the plane with us. Celebrity also sells cartons of American cigarettes on board but you better check with them because I don't know if they hold your purchases until the night prior to leaving the ship. Hope this helps a little.
Aviator of the Seas Posted September 19, 2009 #6 Share Posted September 19, 2009 As Maddy says, you can only buy at the aiport DF store on your way back to the mainland US. I've been on the Adventure three times, and for the life of me I've never seen the seaport DF shop. Not that I was looking for it.
love2vacation Posted September 21, 2009 #7 Share Posted September 21, 2009 If you are cruising, buy them on the ship or on one of the islands. They are about half the price. I do not smoke but DH does and he always buys them on the ship.
Guest maddycat Posted September 22, 2009 #8 Share Posted September 22, 2009 We cruised with friends who smoke last year. They purchase cigarettes on the ship and in port. American cigarettes were selling for either $16 or $17 a carton in St. Maarten. I think that they were around $19 a carton on the ship.
