nitnyleo Posted January 3, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2005 Has anyone hiked the area since the hurricane? Are the trails open?
Jumbie Posted January 3, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 3, 2005 Grand Etang was trashed. Badly. I have no idea if any trails are open, but I doubt it and there wouldn't be anything much worth seeing. Seriously, it's bad. Looks like someone set fire to it.
nitnyleo Posted January 3, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted January 3, 2005 I sort of figured that...looks like another one of those darn beach days. ;) (And, thanks for your other helpful posts on other threads.)
denboy Posted January 6, 2005 #4 Share Posted January 6, 2005 The paths for the more serious hiker such as Grand Etang to Fedons Camp or Mount Qua Qua are still closed having not yet been cleared. However most of the waterfalls are now available to visit, Mount St. Carmel near Grenville combines a 20/30 minute walk with a visit to the falls. Yes the forest did suffer but some growth is coming back, on the positive side it allows you to see what awesome damage can be caused by a hurricane knocking trees over like matchsticks.
